I kid about getting rid of Jake. He is my baby and I could never do wothout him.
I do recommend getting a pug though, or a shih tzu. Both are small dogs, with BIG personalities.
Re: ::Dukis::
I lub my shih tzu, she's hilarious. Also, Shihts are hypoallergenic and don't shed, so they get my vote over other breeds.
(not that I don't love pugs, because I LOVE them. But they shed. And my husband sheds enough, I didn't need another shedding animal)
I like pugs. Added bonus is my brother has always wanted one. So, free dogsitting.
But, FI is quick to point out that I pretty much always get what I want when it comes to arguments like this, so if I want to be fair we'll get the dog he wants. I haven't decided yet if I want to be fair

Why does your H want "the biggest baddest pit he can find?" I hate people like that. Is he trying to breed it or crop its ears and slap a spiked collar on it? Ugh.
FWIW we have 4 rescued pits, and they are crazy hyper as hell. They are the sweetest and most loving dogs, but they are a very active breed. So if you do get one, you and your H should be aware they require a lot of exercise. And a normal looking pit (read: probably not the biggest baddest one he's after, that are bred to be huge and strapping) is only about 40-55lbs. And I know I'll catch crap for this, but if you get one, please rescue/adopt. There are so many pits out there that need good homes. And you can adopt puppies, if a puppy is what you're looking for.

Sorry, I know it's a hot topic for me. It's just infuriating the way people treat those dogs, and their reasoning for wanting them. A dog is a dog is a dog. If you want to look hard, carry a GD gun.
Ha! The idea of my FI using a dog to "look hard" almost made me spit Diet Coke all over my computer screen. I totally agree with you though.
He wants a dog like Daddy from The Dog Whisperer, or Petey from Little Rascals. But he won't let me name it Petey because according to him everyone does that.

Daddy is the best momofarking dog in the world!!! I wish more people got their taste of the breed from watching him. He is truly a stellar dog.
I wish I could say mine behaved/listened as well as he did, but they're the same happy go lucky, eager to please little beasts. Just not as burly
