Progressive Dinner Host

I am a host in a progressive dinner party. I have the last stop before the dessert. Any suggestions on what I could make. One thought I had was a beverage station...

Re: Progressive Dinner Host

  • I wasn't assigned which course I was. Dessert was the only one assigned. It is after me. There are three before me.

  • That's strange that they didn't assign an actual station to everyone.  I would definitely check with the 2 stations before you to ensure someone is putting out food.  If they are covering apps and the entree, then yes, I think a beverage station would be a nice idea.

  • I would say you should still make some kind of food, even if the first two hosts are planning on making an app and an entree.  Maybe a fun second course.  Like, if the first entree will be chicken, your entree could be homemade macaroni and cheese or something.  It's REALLY nice when you are a middle station in a progressive dinner party to have something that is all made ahead of time and you don't have to worry about warming up when everyone gets there.  Crock pot things and dishes that can be kept warm in the oven while you are gone are great.  Or even a cold plate, like sushi or something, might be good, depending on what the others are making.  A crock pot of mashed potatoes with all kinds of toppings like cheese, green onion, bacon, sour cream would be quick and fun.   I would think that all the other food stations will have a beverage to pair with their course, because who wants to eat without having a drink to wash it down?  Hope that helps!

(I have a post about progressive dinner parties on my blog, if you want more suggestions.

  • check with the stations before you.  like previous posters have said, you can make something that compliments the entree.  If the previous station has meat and starch, then you can make some sort of veggies or fruit.  i like the 'assemble your own' potato station, and you can do that with several other items (chilli, fruit salad, green salad, etc)

a green salad/fruit salad station seems most appealing to me. that's typically a good post-entree, pre-dessert option.
