Do you get your nails done? Do you do it yourself? What is your go to color?

Re: QOTD 1/10
I'll get my nails done for a special occasion, but even that's rare. I got a shellac manicure for the wedding, but before that the last manicure I had was for the senior prom LOL!
Sometimes I'll do my nails myself, usually either clear or a pale pink so that the chips are noticeable.
I do my toes more often. I take a Pilates class twice a week and being barefoot on the mat makes me try to keep up with my toes.
If I could afford to get shellac every 2-3 weeks I would. I use a nail strengthener on my nails and sometimes add color. Without the strengthener my nails break super easily.
More than manicures though, I love pedicures. I usually go in the summer every 1-2 months depending. Pedicures last much longer!

I have been getting manicures every Sunday with my mom for years. It's one of my favorite times of the week. I don't consider it part of my budget, which is terrible, but I don't care because it's only $11 a week.
As for color, it depends on my mood. I usually do a natural looking color so chips aren't as noticeable, although I have had red nails for the past 3 weeks. I bring my own polish. I find manicures last longer with my own polish because there's no thinners in them. The nail salon colors often have thinners because of frequent use. All of the opening and closing thickens the polish.
My go-to pink is Essie Mini How High. My brownish neutral is Essie Sweetie Pie or OPI Dulce de Leche. My go-to red is Essie Jelly Apple.
As for my toes, I used to have them painted all year. A few winters ago, I got fungus because my nails never saw light. It wasn't bad and went away quickly and easily with treatment. But now, with the exception of special occasions, I only have color on my toes from May-September. I get bi-weekly pedicures in the summer and once a month pedicures in the winter, just to cut my nails and keep everything clean. My favorite color on my toes is Essie Watermelon.
I usually keep polish of some type on mine. I had gel french manicure for about three months straight. I can make them last for around a month before it needs to be done again. My mom also bought a gel kit, so I've tried doing that. The first time it worked wonderfully...the second time it peeled off within three days.
I always keep my toes painted, usually red or hot pink (which they are currently). If I don't have a french mani on my fingers, I usually just do them clear. Sometimes I do other neutral colors, but right now they're hot pink to match my toes
Just depends on my mood!
I've had my nails professionally done twice: once when I was about 13 (I think I got them done for my birthday?) and then once for the wedding.
I actually painted my nails myself the other day, but I didn't have any clear coat, so it's already coming off. My "go-to" color would be probably clear coat or a light pink for my fingers and dark purple for my toes.
