Apply to see if grass is greener?

I have posted before that my job is not 100% what I'd like to do and has been extremely hard. The company culture here is extremely unprofessional and I have received so little training in the past 6 months that I have been here. I make good money and it seems to be slowly getting better, but still isn't great. I am bullied constantly, or given attitude for no reason.

I saw a job posting on a website for a company in the same field, but more of what my background is in. The territory is different though and may require us to move but I'm not sure. Part of me wants to apply and see if I get an interview and feel them out from there. I'd like to see if that job is more of what I should be doing.

Should I give it a shot or not?

Re: Apply to see if grass is greener?

  • I would apply...you listed some good reasons for moving on from your current job.

Just keep in mind that no job is perfect, but that's just being realistic.

What have you got to lose by applying? If you got an interview, in the very least it would be an excuse to get your resume updated and brush up on your interviewing skills.

  • I would do it too. Like PP said, it can't hurt to apply! This could be a great opportunity but you wont know unless you apply and get in there and interview. Good luck with everything!
  • Go for it!!! If you are unhappy, why not? You never know what might come of it.

I struggled with the exact same thing recently, although I had been quite happy at my job in the past. I worked at Babies R Us, and I was pretty good at my job. But then things started to change and I was getting less and less happy, and more and more stressed - then I saw that a baby store in the same mall was hiring. So I took my chances and brought in my resume. I didn't expect anything, but I figured I might as well see what happened. I wasn't necessarily looking for a new job...but it was something I already was good at (selling baby stuff) and I figured I could take my skills elsewhere, if I had to.

    I applied sometime in November.

I'm currently sitting at the other baby store, where I've been training to be an assistant manager for just about two weeks now. :)

  • It never hurts to at least interview.

  • I'd say do an interview.  You have listed many reasons for not staying with your current job and this might just be the job that is a good fit for you.  Good luck!

  • You should try and be happy where you work.

APPLY! My last two jobs, I worked at for about 7 years combined. Neither one of them I was planning on leaving. Just saw an opportunity, applied out of curiosity and ended up LOVING the jobs. When you like who you work for and you have a good work/life balance, you move up quicker, make more money, and have more fun overall. You're not getting that where you are, and if you're good at what you do, you will find something better.

That's something work looking into. Even if it doesn't work out.
