Lithe Method ?

Hello all!

Has anyone tried the lithe method workouts? I've been reading so much about it and it sounds really interesting but I'm hesitant because it's really expensive and I am super out of shape. I used to work out regularly but have been a real slacker and really packed on the pounds. I'm nervous that I won't be able to keep up and also that I'll be the fat girl in the room. (The pictures I have seen are all of perfectly dressed, coiffed, very fit ladies and I find it a bit intimidating.)

Are the workouts all they are cracked up to be? (Lots of online reviews from ladies raving!) Is it worth the money?

Thanks!

Re: Lithe Method ?

  • I've never heard of it but if you're worried, why don't you start off slow with walking and jogging around your neighborhood or doing some on demand work out videos until you feel more comfortable. You'll save money until you've proven to yourself that working out again is something you're committed to.

You can also call and see if they offer a free trail session for beginners. I've never been in a workout class where all attendees were in perfect shape.

  • I must confess I've never heard of it, but I can say some ladies on here have had great success starting a running program using the C2K program. Depending on where I am after LO comes, DH and I are thinking about starting it together. C2K may be a good way for you to start a committed program without it costing you anything.

  • Hmmm, a couch to 5k sounds like a good idea to get started. Thanks!

  • I did a class and it was AMAZING. They had a special post-partum class for new moms and it was really intense, hard but good. You have to start with the Immersion class, which is for beginners, but the workout is totally worth it. I took my class at the cc location, but after I have this baby I am looking to take the Immersion class at the Main Line location.

Try the Immersion and see what you think. Everyone there will be a beginner. Good luck!

  • Thanks Eagles. I think I'm going to start a c25k to build up my stamina and then check out the Immersion at the Main Line location as well. Perhaps I'll see you there! Good luck!

  • I purchased a package through Living Social a while ago and am taking my last class today (at the Main Line location). I had to do 2 101 classes in order to take the others. I was pleasantly surprised with the people in the class- plenty of Lululemon in the room, but people were friendly and in varying stages of fitness, so don't worry about being intimidated. The instructors don't call you out on anything, but are always eager to help. I took the Skinny Jeans and Hipster after the 101 and enjoyed both. You definitely feel it the next day and if you are looking for something in addition to regular cardio I think their classes are great. Very pricey though, so I don't know that I will be back anytime soon!
  • I work out there and really like it.  Yes it is expensive but at times they offer deals on living social and rue lala.  i would also suggest to do the immersion course over the 101 classes.  immersion gives you an all beginner group, and hones in on the different exercises you will find in their many diverse classes.  the 101's are at a faster speed and may dissuade you from enjoying it.  I had done it before when they first opened and would say their clients have become more diversified, with not such a drastic group of clients that seem well off and better equipped to pay for the program.  I def feel an intense workout both cardio and strength training as well as increased flexibility and overall good feelings from feeling stronger and slimmer.  It is addictive and you get the best results if you go somewhat regularly.  I supplement my studio visits with the fluidity bar - www.fluidity.com, and i have heard of physique 57 (i think?) videos being similar.  The workouts at lithe are cardio cheer sculpting which the owner trademarked and invented so some of the moves are dancey or cheerleader influenced but pretty straight forward if you go off the name CCS.

Here is a breakdown of class costs that they had emailed me.

If they are coming once a week (4 per month) their monthly "rate" would break down to be:
    Individual classes: (4 x $22 = $88)
    5 Class card: (4 x $20 = $80)
    10 Class card: (4 x $19 = $76)
    20 Class card: (4 x $18 = $72)
30 Class card: (4 x $16 = $64) ***At once a week, they will not use up a 30 class card within the 6 month expiration
    1-A-Day: $210

If they are coming twice a week (8 per month) their monthly "rate" would break down to be:
    Individual classes: (8 x $22 = $176)
    5 Class card: (8 x $20 = $160)
    10 Class card: (8 x $19 = $152)
    20 Class card: (8 x $18 = $144)
    30 Class card: (8 x $16 = $128)
    1-A-Day: $210

If they are coming three times a week (12 per month) their monthly "rate" would break down to be:
    Individual classes: (12 x $22 = $264)
    5 Class card: (12 x $20 = $240)
    10 Class card: (12 x $19 = $228)
    20 Class card: (12 x $18 = $216)
    30 Class card: (12 x $16 = $192)
    1-A-Day: $210
***Generally, because a month is a little over 4 weeks, and there may be one week where they come a fourth time, at least 3 per week is the point where a monthly becomes more reasonable.

If they are coming four times (or more) a week (16 per month) their monthly "rate" would break down to be:
    Individual classes: (16x $22 = $352)
    5 Class card: (16 x $20 = $320)
    10 Class card: (16 x $19 = $304)
    20 Class card: (16 x $18 = $288)
    30 Class card: (16 x $16 = $256)
    1-A-Day: $210

Hope that helps!  Give it a shot and you will surely like it.  The instructors are all very kind, helpful, inspiring and encouraging.  Everyone is there for the same reason to look and feel their best.  If you focus on that and not comparing yourself to the others in the class you will be just fine.
