Anyone have rec's for any products...air fresheners...whatever to help combat dog smell in the house??
I clean weekly, which includes vacuuming, & I wash the blankets on each of their beds (which are out in the living room) every other week. The dogs get bathed....ehh...about as much as dogs should, but they do not stink by any means...Im pretty OCD anal about cleaning & smells & stuff so if they stunk I would be bathing them all the time (even though its not good for them). We do not have a very big house, its a ranch style & there is only carpet in the living room.
The smell when I walk in the door drives me bonkers! Before we got Taylor I could rarely smell dog when I walked in the door, but now its totally there....& It bugs me!! I don't want to get knocked out/overwhelmed by some yucky perfumy type smell, I just don't want to smell dog! I have a ton of those Bath & Body Works Wallflower things, 2 in our kitchen (which is our main entrance/exit), & 1 in our living room, 1 in our bathroom & 1 in our bedroom, but I cannot smell them at all.
Anyone have any great odor neutralizing stuff they can recommend?? I have candles & those wax warmer thingys, but obviously we don't use those when we aren't home.
TIA!
Re: Help, my house stinks!
Is somebody peeing or pooping where they shouldn't be? If they are, you need to clean that with an enzymatic cleaner that is specifically made to eliminate the pee.
If they do smell of something other than dog, I suggest a trip to the vet. Maybe there's something manifesting that's causing them to smell bad.
Vinegar in bowls is expert at eliminating household smells. Get shallow wide bowls and fill them with vinegar and leave it in the room where the stink is.
Oh yeah, its just doggie smell, not potty in the house smell
Maine- yep! Had a 14 y/o GSP fall into our laps. She got dumped @ a shelter & someone there notified the foster home for dogs we volunteer @. The director immediately contacted us & we agreed to take her before we even met her. They transported her up to our area, we met her, had Cooper meet her, & brought her home 3 days later! She's great! Such a sweetie, & she & Coop basically ignore eachother which is great!
Aw, what a sweet story! I love it! You are the best

Steam clean your carpet (if you have pets, investing in your own is a great idea so you won't have to call someone in or rent one). Pour baking soda on the carpet too, rub it in, and let it sit for a day and then vacuum. This helps a lot, as well as washing the dog bed covers often.

I have three dogs and that is always my biggest fear. Anything the dogs lay on or are in contact with, I usually cover with blankets. I generally keep my couches covered with blankets, and wash and change them often (take them off when company comes over) I also wash my bedding often, as well as throwing my curtains in the wash once in a while. Only one room in my house has carpets and I steam clean them regularly. Also, in between steam cleaning, I sprinkle backing soda on the carpet and vaccuum it up later.
My house doesnt smell like dog (I constantly ask people). Also, I keep towels at each door and wipe their feet before they come in.
Normal febreeze that you spray on surfaces helps. I also just bought a new dryer, that has a steam refresh option, and Ill put my couch pillows on that cycle periodically too.
Good luck Im a little OCD but it does work.
