Yesterday afternoon I came home from work and our 17 year old dog tried to get up to greet us, and fell over. His back legs weren't working. He was acting weak and out of it and I thought maybe he'd had a stroke. I offered him some food and he ate like a champ and then drank some water. I figured if this was the end at least he could have a "last meal". My MIL held him and pet him for about an hour and when she put him back down he stood up and just started walking again. He was unsteady at first and was running into stuff, but after about 20 minutes of that was back to normal. Today he was running around in the front yard peeing on everything he could get his leg high enough to pee on.
Now I'm worried that his "episode" yesterday wasn't the result of his age but maybe something he ate or got into? Maybe something he breathed in? Because he's blind and deaf we have him in only one room of the house and I can't think of anything he could have gotten into that would be unusual for him. Has anyone ever experienced this? Should I be worried? We do have two other dogs although they don't spend much time together since he's stuck in that one room.

I believe in a lot of things. I believe in fresh tennis balls, the healing power of bunnies, and that the novels of Susan Sontag are something I'll never read. In fact, I don't even know who Susan Sontag is. What is she... like... a painter? I believe in Crystal Lite because I believe in ME. I believe in the movies of Val Kilmer, though these days it ain't so easy. I believe in Darren Sproles, the word "dabble", the first season of "Silk Stockings", and big, warm, moist, gooey chocolate chip cookies that melt in your mouth and all over your face.
Re: Weird neurological thing in 17 year old dog?
Thanks! I already have an appt on Monday to have him put down and was going to call in the morning (they are closed on Sundays) to change that to just a check-up. At this point that's most likely what my vet has him down for anyway as I tend to do this a few times a year as I always think we've hit his last day and then he does a 180 and is normal again. This is just something that's "new" for him.
