Super Bowl

It's that wonderful time of year again and I am stuck. I don't want to do the same old football party with the same old foods but I don't know where to make changes. I typically do subs, pizza, wings, chips/dips, veggie trays, fruit, and sweets.

What are you all doing, if anything?

Re: Super Bowl

  • some ideas that we've used over the years:

pulled pork (in a crockpot! so easy/delicious!)

homemade quesedillas (chop up veggies, meat, cheese, etc, stick between tortillas, and throw them on the stove like you do with grilled cheese!)

veggie tray (i made it into the shape of a football field for one year!)

    bread bowl/dip

    taco dip and tortilla chips

roasted garbanzo beans (look this up! perfect healthy crunchy snack!)

    football shaped cookies

  • Yum! I'm so trying the roasted garbanzo beans! Thanks for the tip!

  • You could do some sort of "bar"- mashed potatoes, chili, hot dog, taco.  Have the basic bottom, then a ton of condiments for people to do as the like.

  • I once had a party and had Sloppy Joe and Italian Sausages in the same crockpot. I had cut up peppers & onions on the side, as well as various shredded cheeses, and hamburger and hot dog buns. People could serve up Sloppy Joe with the hamburger buns and additional things if they wanted, or the Italian Sausages and peppers with cheese. Made it easy.

I've also made a couple of pot roasts, with veggies in the oven. Then shredded the meat, put the veggies and juices into the blender & blended them up to make a gravy, then put the shredded meat and gravy together in a crock pot or roasting pan, with sliced buns for meat sandwiches.

  • You guys are making me hungry. Stick out tongue Thank you.
  • Last year I bought a bunch of craft beers and people had fun trying out different varieties.  Might make some different flavors of pudding shots this year.

Otherwise, my menu looks much like yours!  Traditional favorites.  We did some steak, chicken, peppers, tomato, onion kebobs on the grill one year when it wasn't too cold.  That went over really well.

    Hi:

What about a taco/ nacho bar?  We were just at an event where they had tortilla chips and ground beef, shredded chicken, beans or shrimp plus several different salsas and guac/olives/jalepanos etc.  All could be made ahead.  Have margaritas and maybe rice and you have a menu.

Buffalo chicken dip with crackers & veg,  strombolis stuffed with italian meats & cheeses; meatball sliders, and chocolate chip cookies. Oh, sausage balls are also great.

  • Hey! My friends are being so lame this year and have decided that they hate football, so no party for us, we're going to head to a sports bar to enjoy the game.

What about making a crockpot of Chili?

Buffalo chicken dip is always a hit

I've also done an Ice Cream sundae bar at Half-time in the past.
