plain little me

Hello! So i might frighten some ladies out when i say i NEVER wear makeup, do my hair etc, partly because im too lazy to stand and style my hair for a long amount of time, and also because i suck at doing my hair. as well as for Makeup i am pretty allergic to alot of them and i am terrible at doing my makeup as well... but for the new year i would like to start trying to make an effort, anyone have any suggestions for me?

Re: plain little me

  • It doesn't freak me out... none of my sisters (and i have 5 of them lol) wear makeup and my Mom has never worn makeup either. I'm the odd ball in the family :)

Try looking up some easy makeup tutorials on YouTube. You can do some really easy and quick things that make a huge difference. I am not sure the length/thickness of your hair, but you can simply start by buying a round brush and blowing drying your hair using that and some volumizing (sp???) mousse - or try using some scrunching mousse and letting it air dry.

For make up you can try buying a tinted moisturizer (BB by Maybeline is great), applying some nude or soft pink eyeshadow, a little bronzer underneath your cheek bones (or light pink blush on the apple of your cheeks if you are pale) and some mascara. It takes maybe 5 minutes to do, but will freshen up your look :) I still do this when I don't feel like applying a full load of makeup.

     Just have fun with it!

  • thankyou! i am very pale haha the only time i have worn makeup since last year was our wedding haha and it was not very much haha. and as for my hair, i have ALOT of very very fine healthy hair haha that doesnt hold a style or much due to how healthy it is, my sister in law is a hairdresser and she LOVES how healthy it is. but for styling it she struggles with product due to its fine and easily greasy. i will look on youtube for the makeup videos,
  • My hair is the same way! Its very blond, fine, healthy, but there is a LOT of it and its long. To add volume, I switch up my washing routine - I do conditioner first, and then shampoo. Its a little trick I learned from Victoria's Secret... Its not as healthy for it, so I don't do it every wash, but maybe every other wash. When I dry my hair, I spray Big & Sexy volumizer on the roots, let it air dry for about 15 minutes, then finish blow drying with the round brush. It seems to work really well - it takes a little bit of time, but I only wash it about 3-4 times a week, so its not an every day thing.
  • oh wow i never thought of that! right now i am using the dove hair care line, i will be getting my hair done by my sister in law in Febuary for her final (shes in hair school) and maybe i will spend a bit extra and buy the salon shampoo and conditioner, i never use product, if i do its a tresume heat tamer spray haha which i then NEVER end up blow drying so its pretty much pointless. but maybe i will start actually drying my hair and taking time to freshen my look. my hair usually just sits in a ponytail and a headband haha and i usually wash it 3 times a week if that..as for makeup, i have a pretty greasy complexion.. i have used a few products but again, i never really use makeup and such... ive never been one of those girls i guess haha
  • And there is absolutely nothing wrong with that! I wear makeup because I'm an artist and I think its fun painting my face lol - but I still go barefaced to the store and on the weekends all the time. I personally think too many women have become too obsessed with their makeup. Its sad how many friends I have that won't leave the house before spending 20 minutes doing their makeup!

For really greasy skin (I have it to and had a LOT of problems with acne when I was in highschool) you might try washing your face with Cetaphil for Normal to Oily skin, and then moisturizing. After trying every acne and anti-oily skin wash in the book, my dermatologist told me to switch to Cetaphil and my skin cleared up in just a couple months. Moisturizing helps trick your body into thinking it has already naturally moisturized, and will help prevent your glands from producing so much oil.

  • goodness you have been the 2nd most helpful person on here for advice on things! thankyou very much! i guess now its about being motivated enough to do it haha
  • Well thank you! Haha it was fun talking to you about it :)
  • i figured i would give this site a shot and see if i can get anwsers to my questions haha i have alot of them lol but its really nice to get someone who will sit down and take the time to help
  • If you have allergies to a lot of makeups maybe try going someplace like Sephora that will do a makeup consultation/application for free with a purchase.

(I am taking my Mom for her birthday, you have to call ahead and plan on being there for about 45 minutes and there is a $50 minimum purchase but honestly, if you don't know what you are doing and don't have any makeup already I don't see how you can lose. You can always just buy one or two things that they suggest and then get drug store copies for the rest...although with skin allergies maybe their suggestions would be the best. I plan on buying foundation and any primer that they might suggest + whatever it takes to hit $50 and then will suppliment with what I already have or what I can buy at the pharmacy lol)

Pinterest is great for finding links to makeup and hair tutorials and I find a lot of them are SUPER straight forward and helpful!

  • thankyou for the advice :) i went and bought a few different styling tools, going to practice some "Looks" tomorrow :)
  • I know this is an old post, but I just wanted to chime in--I have been allergic to most popular name brand make ups as well (also allergic to most scents, dyes, perfumes, etc....but that's a whole other post).

One brand that I discovered that has not caused me ANY allergic reaction is Dr. Hauscka (sp?).  I have to order online because I live in a town where the only makeup available is what you can find at Walmart or Walgreens, but I assume you would be able to purchase it elsewhere.

Just wanted to point you in the right direction, so you don't have to do what I did and spend TONS of money on different makeup brands just to see how you would react to them!
