QOTD 1/17

Did you have a security blanket or stuffed animal when you were growing up?  Do you still have it?

Re: QOTD 1/17

  • I had a jammy pies doll and zeddy bear that I could not be separated from. I even took both of them to Korea when I moved there 4 years ago. I still have both of the, they are in a bin downstairs, waiting to be given to my kids.

  • Yes!

I had a stuffed dog named Puddles. The poor thing was almost loved to death! He started out as a pink dog, now he's white (from the many times he went in the wash!) and he's stuffed with rolled up towels because he was losing his stuffing!

He's now in his "retirement home", aka up on the shelf of the closet in my old bedroom.

  • Embarrassing, but...

I have a pink blanket that someone made for me as a newborn.  I didn't attach to it until I was about 4, but I have slept with it since.  Its not extremely ratty like it would be after 27 years normally, because its crocheted.  I wash it every two weeks or so, so its always clean.  I usually tuck it under my arm when I sleep or put it under my head.  I am capable of sleeping without it, so I don't take it on vacation or anything.  I did take it to college.

DH really doesn't care about my blanket.  To be perfectly honest, he sleeps with two burp cloths.  He generally holds them when he is falling asleep.  Sometimes when he drapes his arm over me while falling asleep, he'll drop it on the floor next to my side of the bed, lol.  I wash them every time I do a bleach load (probably every 1.5 weeks).   He also is capable of sleeping without them (I didn't find out about them until after we initially started sleeping together), so his don't come on vacation with us either.

I really don't see anything wrong with it.  If either of our security items started breaking down and falling apart, or looked dirty or something, maybe I would get rid of them.  I don't think it changes the person you are or means I'm less confident or anything.  Honestly, I hope when I have a child that they have an item that they are attached to.

  • When I was little, I had both a blanket and a teddy bear that I was quite attached to. The blanket is long gone, but I still have the bear. His name is Ted (original, right?) and he was actually my mother's when she was little, so he's a good 50 years old! He's in really good shape for his age and hasn't needed much mending, but his nose and fur have worn down a lot. I don't sleep with him anymore, but he does hang out on the end table next to my side of the bed. I'm torn on whether or not I'll want to pass him down when I have kids, or keep him someplace safe so he doesn't get ruined.

  • To be honest, never one that I was like, OBSESSED with for years & years the way some people are where it's like, their baby blanket that they hang on to until they're in college. I wish I had that! I think I just got bored of my toys too easily? Or I was an equal opportunist, ha. When I was super-duper little, I never went anywhere without my Big Bird doll, but I grew out of that. And then a doll I named Kelly until my dad accidentally gave it away with other toys (I still haven't gotten over that, ha), and then for another little while, a stuffed dog named Toto. But I think all of those were like, one, maybe two-year-long things and then I moved on (with the exception of Kelly, thanks Dad).

  • I didn't.  My mom threw everything out once it looked awful, so I had to adapt to new toys/blankets all the time.
  • I don't think I had anything specific. But I did always sleep with at least A stuffed animal. Even now, if for some reason H isn't sleeping with me (volunteering overnight or something), I'll sleep with my 3 foot Winnie the Pooh to keep me company and take H's place in our bed.

  • I had a stuffed lamb that I slept with when I was little.  I think it was a gift from a relative for me when my sister was born.  I'm sure it is still around somewhere, probably in my parents basement.

  • I had a stuffed animal named Froggie and guess what...he was a frog.  I would carry him every where.  He was one of those home-made aminals where you just cut out a printed pattern and sew both sides together.  Because of that he had to have a few "surgeries" to fix him up.  I still have him.  Right now he lives at my parents house but he will move in with us when we get a house of our own.

  • My mom made a peanuts blanket for my brother when he was born, it even has his name sewn into the border (small), but I loved that thing so much. I named it blanky blank (original, right?). Then I also had a stuffed dog named doggy dog (see the trend?) that we found at the doctor's office. After he went unclaimed for a week or two, they let us take him home. We had to fix his eyes and nose, but I loved that dog so much!! They're both at my parents house. Once we get settled into our own place, they'll come with me.

I currently sleep with a stuffed animal usually, but not when we go out of town. I like to either use it to give just a little more padding under my head or chin (I don't like two pillows at all!) or separate my boobs...weird, I know. haha.

  • lmao- i sleep with a teddy bear and i do it to seperate my boobs or prop them up i too lol! so not so weird!
  • I had my baby comforter from my crib set. I do still have it. I've actuallly used it with my niece when she stays overnight with me. I'm hoping to be able to pass it on to my kids (even though it's all faded and doesn't look very pretty, it's mostly intact and still functional), even if they only use it for their baby dolls.

  • My mom made me a blanket out of the scraps of fabric she got making my sister clothes.  I always slept with it, but it kind got more when my mom had leukemia while I was in college.  I was 3 hours away, so it was a way I could keep my mom close when she was sick.  For graduation, my mom remade me a blanket since the fabric was 10 years older than me (like my sister) and the more I slept with it the more it was falling apart... So now I sleep with the new blanket and I have the old one with my duckie in my rocking chair in our room.

  • When I was about 3, my grandmother made me a needle point pillow.  I referred to it as my pillow.  I slept with it every day until I was about 19.  It began to disintegrate, so when I was about 14, I had to put it in a ziplock bag to keep the pillow somewhat together.  I proudly went to college sleeping with a pillow in a plastic bag.

I once I was able to not sleep with it, I stored it right under my bed to keep it safe and close by.  I still have my pillow, but now it's stored in my closet.

  • I had a stuffed bear named Buttons that my grandma gave me when I  was about 3.  I slept with it every night (except when I went camping) right through to college.  I only stopped when I got engaged.  Buttons is now in a box in my dressing room at my house.
