Silly question about a lost diamond
Hi ladies -
DH found a loose diamond (about 1 carat) leaving
work today. We both think it's fake, but want to find out just for the
heck of it.
Can we take it to any jewelry store and have them inspect it?
And
(in a long shot) if it turns out to be real, how would we even find the
rightful owner? Put an ad on Craigslist? He found it outside on the
University campus. I know I'd be sad if my stone fell out.So karma tells me that I would at least have to make the attempt.
Thanks ladies!
Re: Silly question about a lost diamond
I have no clue, and how would you know who the rightful owner is. If it is real, anybody could claim it as their own.
How sad for whoever lost it, if it is in fact real.
I am pretty sure you can take it to a jeweler and have it appraised.
I don't know if all diamonds get engraved (or just the larger ones) but I think many are laser inscribed with some sort of code or whatnot --like with the jeweler's name or a serial number or something.
You can always have a jeweler inspect it, and then turn it in to the police. They will hold it until it is claimed, or if not, then they'll give it back to you!
