Hi ladies,
l have posted a few times before but not since I had my son in October. Anyway, I am training for a 10K and taking a boot camp class twice a week. I have been running for years but had to stop while pregnant because of complications.
Anyway, I have never injured myself so I need your advice. I hurt my knee during jump burpees and then ran on it the next day. It has been hurting, on and off, for three days now. I have been icing it but the pain keeps reoccurring, how long do you think I should avoid running on it? I can't get in to see my doctor for a week, so I was thinking I should wait until I see him.
any advice or tips are greatly appreciated!! TIA!!

Does the pain come back when you exercise or does it hurt when you aren't doing anything strenuous? If it's the first, I would wait a few days before doing anything high impact (jump burpees, etc). If it hurts during an average day, I would wait a week. My guess is you've aggravated your knee from all the high impact and it just needs time to rest.
I hurt my knee from over use and ran a 1/2 marathon on it anyway. By the end I was limping in pain. It took over a week and a half to fully recover to a point when I could run comfortably again. It's better to rest longer than you think you need, than hurt yourself even more and taking more time out of your training.
Good luck on the 10k!
I would make an appointment with ortho or sports medicine instead of a GP for this one to make sure you haven't messed something up and it's just a "give it some rest" or a week of deloading (i.e. you go for walks instead of runs, and no boot camp). Since you're in TRAINING mode and not just weekend warrior mode, go to the doc who is who you'll end up with from the start, it'll save you the cost of the secondary visit.
IMO, start with your shoes and work your way up... Make sure you've got a proper arch support in your shoes, if not get some custom orthotics (will be worth the money in the long term... Then get a knee sleeve such as Rehband (jackal's gym) that though a little more expensive is a lot more supportive than the cheap pieces of junk you can buy at the store (buy nice or buy twice)... From there it's off to a good Chiropractor (I've stopped messing with PT whenever possible - a good Chiro is going to do the same work only much more efficiently)..
