Freezer Meals

I spent 3 hours today preparing 9 freezer meals. I am kind of excited to see how they all turn out! It wasn't that hard to do them all, just really, really time consuming. I only spent $120 which also included all my other groceries for the next 2 weeks. It's nice to know that the freezer is full and I don't really have to cook, with the exception of cooking noodles, for the next week or so. Just thought I'd share my excitement with you ladies :)

Re: Freezer Meals

  • That is awesome. I've never done a freezer meal but hearing some of you ladies talk about them has made me want to try.

Let us know how they turn out!

  • I would love to get my act together enough to get some freezer meals done... Let us know how it goes!  I have been trying to pick something from my Pinterest to make this week.  :) I usually just stick with my easy go-to meals, but I want to try something new!

  • I really want to try this too! Just need to make the time to prepare everything. Where did you find your recipes?
    Photobucket
  • I found a few different blogs via Pinterest and kind of adapted the recipes to what I like. I used more veggies in each recipe then it called for (I doubled each veggie per bag). I used the following blogs:

    http://melissafallistestkitchen.blogspot.com/2011/09/freezer-cooking-slow-cooker-meals.html

    http://lovingmynest.com/learning-activities/cooking/freezer-crock-pot-recipes/

    http://www.mamaandbabylove.com/2011/04/05/freezer-cooking-with-slow-cooker-recipes/

From these blogs I made the following meals:

Pork & Veggies (makes 1 bag)

Creamy Farmhouse Chicken & Garden Soup (makes 1 bag)

Savory Vegetable Beef Soup (makes 2 bags)

Healthy BBQ Chicken (makes 2 bags)

    Stehpanie's Goulash (makes 2 bags)

It can be totally overwhelming to see all the different meals and think that you need to make them all! I just went though the recipes, asked hubby what he would like and picked a few to make. I then wrote down the ingredients to each recipe on separate pieces of paper to keep things organized. I then went through each list and checked off what I already had at home after that was done I made my 'Grocery List' for everything I needed to buy (you'll be buying multiples of a lot of veggies - mainly, green pepper, onions, carrots, potatoes & zucchini).

I got to work as soon as I got home from the store because I knew I wouldn't start if I sat down :) The blogs suggest chopping all the veggies at once but I found it just as easy to do one recipe at a time. I figured I'd get confused if I were working on all 5 recipes at once. Be sure to read each recipe on the blog because some items you do not add to the freezer bag but instead add them when you actually cook the meal in the crock pot. Once each meal was made I labled it and put it in the freezer! Pretty easy once you have a plan in place but getting to that point is a bit of work. I'll be sure to let you ladies know how everything tastes!!
