We currently have builder grade oak cabinets (honey color) and white appliances. We need an update around here but are on a budget (of course!). We are in the lower end of our neighborhood so I'm not seeing houses on this end of the neighborhood having major upgrades so I think painting the cabinets should be just right. We may even have $ in teh budget soon to upgrade the countertops.
I've looked for pics online but I just can't find a kitchen that even remotely resembles my kitchen. My decor is currently Mexican. The walls are a bright but warm yellow and I have talavera plates on the wall, cobalt blue canisters (sugar, creamer, coffee) and some mexican pottery above the cabinets. The countertops are currently a brick colored laminate. Sorry I don't have a picture!
Would white cabinets & white appliances look good? I do realize I would have to get a paint that is very good match to the appliances so that the cabinets don't look dingy. Has anyone seen this look good IRL?
Thanks!
Re: Kitchen: White cabinets and appliances?
I would need to see a pic to visualize it, but I just painted mine. White on top and black on bottom. I distressed them with a glaze and they look great. I haven't done the countertop yet, but I think I'm going to paint it. and NOT use the kit from Lowe's.
Also, I brought my existing stove and fridge when I moved here, but not the DW. I don't plan to replace the DW till this one breaks, but it was white... so I spray painted it. With Stainless steel spray by Krylon.
There is also Thomas' liquid stainless steel, but the only place that had it around here was by the gallon and I didn't need that much.

Thinking of doing cosmetic updates to a dated home? These were our costs.
I painted our cabinets white as well. Currently the stove & dishwasher are black, but they need to be upgraded and I'll be getting white to go with the white fridge.
Generally, white on white looks fine. Make sure you do a good job painting the cabinets as the open grain of oak can look off once it is painted and you end up with cheaper looking cabinets than when you started. I would wait to paint until you have upgraded the appliances and countertop before doing anything to the finish or your cabinets.
