Live in VA and want to do a garden

I am new at this and have no idea where to start. I want to do a garden for my kiddo's, but I don't think I have a green thumb. Any help would be nice. TIA!

Re: Live in VA and want to do a garden

  • I'm also new to gardening. The best advice I would have is to google the plants you want to grow and learn about them. Lighting they need, watering, when to plant, common parasites they are prone to all that stuff.. Sorry, not much help.
  • We are in VA too and just set up a raised garden bed today. Haven't planted seeds yet, but plan to start tomorrow.  We tried pots last year with no luck (no green thumb here, either). This year we set up the raised bed with a soaker hose hooked up to a timer so we don't forget to water.

I would suggest checking out www.burpee.com . You can put in your zip code and it'll tell you what zone you're in and when to plant/sow vegetables on their growing calendar. it's pretty helpful.

     Good luck with your garden!
