Food for adults at kids birthday party?

Hi everyone, This Saturday we are having a princess party for a 4 year old. The party is from 3:00 PM until 5:00 PM.

The children's menu is set, but we are struggling with what to serve the adults. I feel that the time of day will require minimal food, but I don't want to not have enough out either. Here is what I was thinking for the adults:

Chicken salad croissants
Spinach dip with chips
Ham ball with crackers
and Birthday cake witht the kids

What do you think? We were just going to set out the platters and the parents can eat as they want during the party.

Re: Food for adults at kids birthday party?

  • It seems a little off- not quite a mini meal, but not really apps KWIM?

For more of a minimeal: sandwiches, spinach dip (add some carrots and cucumbers), and some other sidey item (a fruit/pasta salad?)

For appy: spinach (with the veggies), ham ball, and some other appetizer that you can eat with your fingers.  I'm drawing a blank.

I'd lean towards whatever the kids are having.

Yes, let's know this first and go from there. Why make 2 different meals?

  • Kids menu:

PB&J sandwiches (cut to look like carriages)
    Chips
    Fruit cups
    Popcorn cups

    Birthday cake & ice cream.

Keep the ^ same for the adults, you just need to add one or two dishes with this like Pasta or pizza.

  • Would you consider putting out more varieties of sandwiches like ham, egg salad, and such? Do you know that known of the guests have any nut allergies? I've known kids before that can't even be in a room where there's nuts...

My favorite thing to serve at parties is mozzarella balls and cherry tomatoes on toothpicks/skewers with some fresh basil if there's any around. I'm only in my early twenties, but there are always chips and dip or guacamole or salsa around at parties and it always goes quickly.

  • ITs is a kids party.  I would have extra of the kids menu just in case, but parents sshould be able to handle 2 hours without "grown up" foods!
