Freezer Meals

I apologize in advance for this silly question -

When you guys do freezer meals, what do you put them in? When I made a lasagna last month, I doubled the recipe.  I cooked one then, and then froze the rest.  We just ate it last night when we had people over.  The one I put in the freezer, I had bought one of the large aluminum casserole dishes, which I'm assuming are intended to be disposable??  With that being said, I threw out that pan.  So, aren't you spending more money buying disposable pans to keep freezer meals in, or am I totally missing something?

Thanks!!

  • Well, I was wanting to prepare a handful of freezer meals (not just lasagna) at one time, and only have so many 9X13 dishes and casserole dishes.  That, and if I had my freezer meals in those types of pans, they're used up and if I need them to bake something, I don't have that pan because it's in the freezer.

I didn't know if people just bought several casserole dishes and used those and with the hopes if they weren't using a freezer meal they had a dish to use, or if they stored freezer meals in some kind of re-usable dish I wasn't thinking of...

LOL I dont know either. i guess you could reuse those aluminum pans.....not that i'd want to. you could also freeze in indivudual portions in ziplock bags i guess.

  • I think that it's Glad that makes black plastic ones with lids that are reusable, and microwave and oven safe.

  • I make a lot of freezer meals and end up storing them in gallon size freezer bags.  Many of them go into the crock-pot or I cook on the stove so I don't need big dishes to keep them in.  Also, if you are preparing a meat to put over top of noodles or rice they can go in the freezer bags then throw the rice/noodles in the casserole dish when you are ready to cook and dump the frozen meat/veggies/sauce in over top and bake.

  • It's also about saving time so whether it be plastic bags or the tins, yes you are throwing them out but you are making double batches which can save and you are saving your time.
