I hate my Viking appliances!

Does anyone have them?  DH and I got the range, over the range micro, Dishwasher and grill and I HATE them.  I dont know how to tell DH I want to sell them and just get normal GE appliances.

Anyone else have opinions on these appliances?

Re: I hate my Viking appliances!

  • I've never heard of them. How are they different?

  • whhhaaaaaaaat!?!?

Can I ask why?? (as we are looking to get a new Viking pkg when we move)

  • They are high end appliances.  I hate them because the do not perform like i thought they would..  Which is weird because DH and I worked for the distrubitor for the entire NE.

They just did not come up to the standards that i had... Cleaning them is sooooo hard too.... You cannot get rid of fingerprints no matter what you do!  barkeepers friend, micro fiber, method... nothing works!

  • as far as performance, are they over-rated?

Sorry, totally personally motivated questions. We wanted wolf/subzero, but they have a great viking pkg for much less (promo). But it's not worth the $$ if they aren't going to perform as wanted.

  • Depending on the range you are getting...

As for the Fridge STAY FAR AWAY!!!! They are nothing but problems and service sucks....

The dishwasher is m ade by asko so if you buy a GE you are getting the same thing.

The Microwaves are made by Sharp.... See the pattern.

The only thing Viking makes of their own is their Grills and Ranges.  I am just not happy with the performance.  I have the convection oven and microwave and they are such a PITA

  • wow!! That's REALLY good to know! Thank you. Seriously!!!
  • Katie you are more than welcome!  Are you getting a gas range or an electric one?
  • I have the a Viking package in my kitchen. ?I only hate the dishwasher. ?Everything else is fine, but I realize that we are lucky as most people I know who have Viking appliances have had a hell of a time with servicing them. ?As for keeping it clean, etc., You'll find that misery with any stainless steel appliances ?It's not just Viking...I hate stainless steel.

  • gas for SURE! We were looking at a gas range with grill insert, two electric ovens, the fridge and the micro in the pkg. Glad I can talk DH into Wolf/Subzero now. Maybe I can cajole the buider into a deal for that instead. haha.
  • I am telling you do NOT get the fridge... it is nothing but problems... the compressors are crappy and getting service from Viking is like getting blood from a rock... it sucks.  Yoy must have been looking at a VGSC36.. They are good... Are you getting designer series or the original?
  • Very interesting!  Thanks for sharing.  We considered Viking when shopping for our range and ended up  going with Thermador because we heard from several people that the Viking ovens are not nearly as good as far as performance.  Funny because you see them everywhere in marketing, catalogs, etc.

Katie-I would consider Thermador and Dacor, both are great ranges and somewhat less expensive than Wolf.

  • I have an entire Viking kitchen and can tell you that I would never consider purchasing them again. Not only have I spent over $1500 repairing my refrigerator ($6,000 cost) over the past 9 years, but have also paid over $250 to fix my $1,500 micro/convection oven. I have lived with duct tape holding the button on this microwave for 3 years as I refuse to pay the $500+ in order to fix it. I am told that the entire sub control system would need to be replaced. After doing research, I found that my Viking is actually a Sharp in disguise. Her is a real money saver... If your button on your over the range microwave has popped out, DO NOT allow them to replace the entire subunit at $533. Instead, order Sharp part number FDECAB029MRK0, it is the Open Button Assembly. I bought mine from Partstore.com for about $30. With a little finesse you can remove your old button with no tools. If you remove the stainless steel cover over your existing button, you can place it over the Sharp part and then gently place it back in. Be advised, the reason your button probably popped out was because a small piece of plastic broke inside, likely as a result of steam from your stovetop weakening the plastic. Please be sure to use your fan when cooking on the stove top, or do not use the burner directly below button. Hope this helps, I saved $500 by doing my homework!

  • Couldn't agree more! They are completely high maintenance!
