Is lavender too childish for an adult bedroom?

My room and bath will be the last thing I do in the house and it won't happen until summer probably.  But, I'm thinking ahead and have pinned on Pinterest and saved to Ideas Book in Houzz and lavender is something I'm drawn too.

I love turquoise.   The laundry room, kitchen, Dining room all coordinate with that color on the walls.  (that's why I went with pink in DD's room)

Son's room is Very Hungry Caterpillar theme.

Living Room and Hall way is black/red/grey.

So, I have black bedroom furniture.  I'm wanting to do an accent wall with a morrocan trellis or harlequin stencil.  For some reason I keep visioning lavender with a touch of green and mocha brown.

Is that too childish?

Will that color combo work?

What about the black furniture?

Where can I find a "flowy' type of bed skirt that would be sold by itself?

Re: Is lavender too childish for an adult bedroom?

  • I ran into the same issue a couple months ago. I was trying to pick out a purple color for the bedroom but was worried about it being too childish, so I went w/ something that's just slightly darker and duller (but still pretty!). That description doesn't sound appealing at all, but I think it turned out great.

If you choose to do a lavender color, I think it could really work well with the black furniture, but I'm no design expert by any means.

  • I agree with PP. I've seen a grey-lavender color look amazing but a pink-lavender might look silly.

  • grey-lavender combination is my favorite for bedrooms - I wish my HB' would agree with that :(

  • I agree with the other people on this thread. It all depends on the lavendar you choose. A lavendar that's on the gray side would be ideal and would coordinate nicely with ivory, silver, gray, and even dark deep purple as accents throughout the room.
