duck or venison based food recs?
Hi,
Our vet recommends a duck or venison based food for our dog. She has mild allergies.....
Please respond if you have any recommendations for these foods. Where I live there are lots of brands; hard to know where to begin.

What are your dogs allergies? Grains? Chicken? Fish?
Off the top of my head I'd suggest Taste of the Wild's venison or duck recipes. But more info would help!

We think she's allergic to grain. Not certain. She chews her paws consistently. This has been going on for several months. Even if we're in places with snow (no plants etc) she's chewing. DH, our vet, and I all speculate it's a food allergy because she chews her paws in whatever environment she's in. We live in the SF Bay area but have traveled to Washington and Oregon and Lake Tahoe with her extensively this year. She's 9 years old. A pure bread Labrador retriever. She eats Chicken Soup for the Dog Lover's Soul "mature dog" formula.
We feed raw, but I think Orijen and Acana might have what you need. I know they had a cat food with duck. Both brands are grain free; Acana is cheaper than Orijen.
We fed Acana before switching to raw.
5 cats. 1 baby.
Ditto Kaiene; we feed our dog raw. If the Orijen and Acana are too much for you,I'd still rec TOTW; it's grain free and has recipes made with less common protein sources.

Natures recipe also has a grain free diet that would work.
The third I would look into a wellness food. Their simple line is meant for allergies so in theory they should have limited ingredients.
I highly encourage you to avoid the Blue brand foods at all cost. Their company policies are not in the best interest of the pet, and I have witnessed them being quite belligerent towards pets owners purchasing other brands of dog food. Not to mention the number of dogs I have seen on that food with diarrhea.
Lots of great recommendations above (Orijen, etc.). If you want to try a fish-based, grain-free food, Wellness Core has an "Ocean" formula. My dogs have both done very well on it, but each dog is unique,so you may need to try a few foods before you find the right fit. Sometimes you can get sample bags for free so you don't have to invest in a large bag that turns out to be a bad fit for your dog. GL!
