Ugh. I need somewhere to vent.
I haven't been on the pill in forever, and now I'm back on it. What a pain in the ass. I was prescribed Yasmin (that's what I took last time before I quit for a few years). So I took my prescription in to get it filled. Of course they gave me Zarah, the generic. I was less than thrilled, since I remember trying a generic once before and hating it. Whatever, I decided to just try it and keep an open mind. I just finished my first month of it and it has given me two noticeable side effects. One -- mood swings. Wow. Two -- zero sex drive. Like seriously. It is a problem.
So today I called my doctor to try something else. She said since she wrote me an actual script for Yasmin, I can just request that at my pharm. So I call the pharm. They tell me it will be $90 (as compared to $20 for generic libido-killer drug). So I call me insurance company, where they tell me that I can get my doc to call in and tell their "specialist" that it is medically necessary that I take the name-brand. So I call the doc back and they say that's bs -- that the insurance company will tell them I have to try three generics before they'll give me the good shiit.
WTF. This is going to be super duper fun. Any one else have similar situations?
Re: Birth control rant
I feel your pain! I have switched BC i feel like a bunch of times and the mood swings are better but seriously NO sex drive...blah! Even being on Yazmin in the past I would have massive mood swings, I did the ortotricyclin lo for awhile and that was better with the mood swings but I feel like the lack of sex drive has been an issue thru most of them. DH and I have talked about it and I have one month left of the crap I'm on now and then I'm freakin done! I told my doctor last year about the mood swings and lack of sex drive and she changed me to Natazia, the mood swings have been much better but still no real improvement on the other issue, I think it's actually gotten worse if that's even possible!
Good luck with the insurance company and getting everything worked out.
I work in a pharmacy. We dispense generics because unless your doctor writes specifically that you require the brand name, most insurances won't cover brand name meds. Even then, they still may need a prior authorization. We don't do it to be a PITA, we do it to to try and get your scripts filled quickly and at as low of a cost to you as possible. You can always request the brand though. I've seen a lot of Yaz and Yasmin coupons come through. It might be something to check into.
