AKC Obedience Competition

Total long shot, but I was just curious if any old regs who check here or any new lurkers who might be around compete in AKC obedience competitions.

My weim and I are just getting started in the sport, so I'd love to hear people's stories (i.e. how you got into it, how long it took you to get started, whether your dog enjoys it, etc.?)

TIA!

Re: AKC Obedience Competition

  • I don't compete but Buddy is in agility.  He picked up on it super fast and LOVES it.  I also get a tired corgi which is a win :).   I know that isn't all you were asking but I couldn't just be a looky loo.

Thanks! It's nice to get at least one response! LOL

We've definitely considered agility too, but we don't have a yard, so I thought it might be harder to get in practice at home than with obedience.

Obedience isn't quite as exciting to watch, as agility, but I think it is amazing how much self-control the dogs have. We'll have to give it more time to see if Dixie actually is capable of that kind of self-control or not! LOL

  • The trainer who taught our basic obedience and CGC prep courses competes/competed (unsure if she still does) in AKC obedience. From what I understand, it's difficult (they are real sticklers) but fun.
  • We did rally because it was more fun and you could talk to your dog.
