Rehearsal Dinner

My brother is getting married next may (yes May 2014) and my mom is already thinking about Rehearsal Dinner sites. I've been trying to think of places, but my mind is drawing a blank along with hers.

The wedding will take place in Crofton and the reception is in downtown Annapolis. I think my mom is expecting around 40+ people. So somewhere preferably close to or in between these two locations would be ideal. My FSIL would rather have a casual RD, than something fancy. The only places I can think of are crab places, but the wedding is the first week in May and crabs are sparse then.

Ideas? TIA!

Re: Rehearsal Dinner

  • There are so many restaurants, I am just trying to think who might have a big room to use. Big Fish does. Blue Dolphin? Less fancy than those? (I consider them to be relatively casual).

ETA: J Kings? (used to be Kaufmans)

  • I thought about suggesting Big Fish, but I've never been there. FSIL wasn't impressed with J Kings. I think the hard part is finding a place that has a big enough room.

ETA: Where is Blue Dolphin? I thought you were talking about Nautilus at first and was thinking to myself "the diner, for rehearsal dinner?' LOL.

  • Federal House Grill in DTA has an upstairs room you can rent.

Gordon Biersch has room they can close off but I am not sure how many it holds. 40 might be tight.

Other options that I know have private rooms/areas in Annapolis: Macaroni Grill, Paladar, West End Grill, CastleBay, Boatyard Bar and Grill.

  • we have eaten at Big Fish a handful of times, and overall I have liked their food. They have a good variety of stuff to choose from. I personally have not eaten at Blue dolphin yet but DH did and he thought it was pretty good.

Blue Dolphin is actually right across Conway Road from Nautilus:)

Ha, now that you mention it I am pretty sure Nautilus has a party room!

  • A friend of mine had her rehersal dinner at Blue Dolphin last spring, it was really nice, they had private room and it was pretty casual.  In Crofton you could try Four Seasons, Bone Fish (just opened), Green Turtle (we just had my BIL's engagement party there, they have a private room, and it's very casual), the Mexican place that just opened (can't remember the name of it) where Jaspers used to be. Allisons restaurant might be an option, but it's kind of small.

In Annapolis, Yellow Fin, Federal House, Sly Fox (or did that close, I can't remember)-we went to a RD at Sly Fox in September and it was really nice, Carols Creek, Chart House (although maybe not casual enough?), Paladar, Brio

  • I like Federal House too.  What about Red, Hot & Blue?  We had ours there (in Laurel) and it was a lot of fun - super casual.

  • Thanks Ladies! I'm emailing my mom all of your suggestions.

RH&B, I haven't been in there in a few years to see if they have a private room or not. I'm assuming your talking about the one on Rt 50? We threw around the idea last night of a few places on Kent Island, but my mom feels bad about having everyone drive over the bridge.

  • We went to a rehearsal dinner at Mike's Crab House last year on May 3rd and no one had a problem getting crabs. It was nice because the non-crab-eaters like myself could order anything else off the menu. We didn't really have a private room but we had a separate space on the covered deck.

I've heard great things about Big Fish Grille but I've never been. Other places in the Annapolis area I can think of are Yellowfin, Carpaccio, Paladar, Wild Orchid Cafe, Brio, Stoney River or Stan and Joe's (my husband went to a party at the Edgewater one recently and said the food was excellent). I would not recommend Gordon Biersch for a party that big. My mom threw a surprise b-day party there for me a few years ago and they did a very poor job.

yes, the RH&B on 50.  I don't think that's a terrible drive from Crofton.  We had ours in Laurel and DH's family are regulars (and we live around the corner).  The one in Laurel has a private room, so based on the space in Annapolis (it looks bigger), they probably have one too.  And the food is so good.

I think you should pick this place just because they have hush puppies. Oh hush puppies - yum!! Smile

  • We did ours at Rams Head Tavern in Annapolis.  They have a room in the back, but I can't remember how many it holds.  It may be too small for 40 people.  I can't remember how many were at our rehearsal dinner.

ETA:Just searched in my email and it looks like we had 37 people and they told us they can fit 40 people.

Blue Dolphin is in the new Crofton Princess shopping center. they have a restaurant and a banquet hall. I've heard its nice.

What about West End Grill? I looked there, it was good, but we went to Italian Market instead. I loved mine there, but they didn't have their ish together, so I don't recommend it.
