Recommend your heart rate monitor/fitness tracker

So I'm looking for a fitness tracker that is decently accurate at calculating calorie burn during different types of workouts (ie: kickboxing, yoga, strength training). I haven't decided how high tech I want to get, whether I want something that's basically just a good quality heart rate monitor (I like some of the polar's), or whether I should splurge for something like the BodyBugg. The advantage to products like BodyBugg and MediaFit is that they tell you how many calories you burn in an entire day, while at rest, sleeping, etc. They also help you track the foods consumed against what you are burning daily, for a pretty accurate picture of your diet and activity level. However they typically require a monthly subscription for software. So I'd love to hear people's firsthand experiences, whether they found that splurging for the top of the line trackers was worth the expense, whether tracking everything they did/ate all day was just too much of a pain, or whether they have a more standard heart rate monitor/calorie tracking watch that they felt did a good job. I appreciate the help!
