help me decide on bedding

I am sick of our bedding and want a change.  We have a down comforter and a duvet cover.  We have a queen bed, but the comforter is king size because DH and I fight over the covers :)

Threshold? Seersucker Duvet Cover Set

I found this West Elm knock-off at Target and I really like it, but can't decide on a color.  I really like the color pictured (dark teal) but I would LOVE a white duvet. I'm just afraid it would get gross over time.  I know when we had a different down comforter and no duvet, it got really dingy around the perimeter.  DH is also really hard on bedding (sleeps on the sham despite my pleas not to) and we are not every day bed-makers.  In fact, we only make our bed when the sheets get changed or company is coming over.

Our walls are beige, furniture is dark wood and curtains are white - not changing any of those.  Our room doesn't get a ton of natural light after 10am either.

Would you get a white duvet in my position?  How about white sheets instead and get the darker comforter? Do white sheets get dingy over time?

Re: help me decide on bedding

  • I would probably do the darker comforter, as pictured, and the white sheets. I think it would go well with the rest of the decor you described in your room. I had a white duvet cover that I got rid of after a year, just because it started to look dingy pretty quickly (we also have a cat, and I always noticed little prints, from her trips to the yard or the basement to use the litterbox). I've had a set of white sheets, on the other hand, that we got for our wedding almost three years ago that still look great, probably because they stay covered up most of the time and I wash them in a detergent with bleach.
  • We have a white duvet.  It does get dingy at the top, but I just wash it semi-frequently.   I bought it at HomeGoods for a good deal, so I won't mind replacing when needed.  Anything white gets dingy after a while.  I look at the white Pottery Barn sheets, and they are getting the dingy look.
  • Okay, I think I am going with the teal one.  I just don't trust DH to be careful enough, haha.  They had white sheets with a teal pattern that I think I will get, too - that way general wear and tear won't be as obvious.

  • I would stick with the teal.  We have a cream duvet and it got one blood stain on it (sorry I know gross) and that has not come out.  Also our white sheets have gotten discolored I guess just from sweat and use.  So when we get new bedding eventually I will want a color.  Right now no one sees it and its still comfortable so I'm not jumping to spend money on that now even though I love lurking in bedding departments.
