CD ? - converting aplix to snaps on BGs
I've decided that I do not like the aplix (velcro) closures on my BG CDs. Does anyone have experience with converting to snaps?
Re: CD ? - converting aplix to snaps on BGs
After 31 cycles and two losses, we've been blessed with a healthy baby girl!
Congrats to both of my amazing TTC Buddies, tdmd09 and sb2006!!

I don't have experience converting them, but I do have an industrial snap press (I was trying to make my own CDs, but haven't finished them yet) so I have a tiny bit of experience.
I get my snaps from thesnapstore.com. I'm not sure if they are CAM snaps but CAMs are supposed to be the best so check on that. You could probably google for a pattern on where you place the snaps, or buy one BG with snaps and copy that. Snaps are not hard to put on, but practice on a scrap first b/c they are impossible to take off if you mess up. I have one dipe with a snap on backward because of this.
Amberly, I personally like snaps better for a couple of reasons, although I do agree you get a better fit with aplix. Velcro wears out and snaps do not. Velcro also sticks to other stuff in the laundry and can ruin those things (one of my nursing camis) even if you put the tabs down. Also, babies can learn to undo the aplix and take their diaper off but snaps are harder for them to learn.

Yes. This is exactly why.
And also - they seem to rub her tummy in a weird way somehow and make a red mark, which never happens with the snaps.

I hadn't thought about that!
I might check out the CD board to see what their thoughts are on the matter. If you have time to check with your sewing board, I'd love to hear what they say. Thanks for chiming in!!!

I can't find anything during a quick search on the CD sewing board. It is http://makelaughlove.com/forum/forum.php if you want to join and check. I haven't really posted there... I just lurk and learn. You have to join and cannot lurk.
I remember reading about sewing PUL since there will be holes from sewing anyway. It said to dry in the dryer and that will seal the holes. Of course, don't do this all the time as the PUL will wear down faster, but I think one time to seal the holes will help. Also, when putting snaps on, you will want another layer of PUL, so 2 total layers of PUL where the snaps are, for reinforcement. Joann's has PUL, but not with the other fabric for some reason (at least in the one near me). I forget where they have it, but they also have diaper kits in the same place. You can get some PUL online, too.

Jeepie - you are AWESOME.
Thanks so much for all of your input. I'll check out the board.

That IS helpful. I'm incredibly lazy and totally don't want to DIY. You've made my day
