Grrr, why do people think
that the only way lesbians can get pregnant is through IVF?!?
I dont know why it drives me so crazy, but i've had to explain to my mom and family a million times that IVF is an invasive medical procedure done in extreme cases of trouble concieving - not routine baby makign for same sex couples. It boils my blood when she talks about "the invitro babies" at her daycare.
umm, hello? is it really that hard to conceptualize how two girls could get pregnant? its really not that different....
ugh. vent over
Re: Grrr, why do people think
I agree, it's annoying. We get a lot of turkey baster at home assumptions too. UGH.
One of our straight friends, who has a child btw, was oblivious to the workings of the female body. When I explained the IUI process she was blown away. She had no idea about ovulation etc. We actually brought her with us to the RE so she could see what her body does every month.
Our other friend said that, "it seemed like a lot of trouble" and couldn't we just go to a bar? Nice
I have found that people say this as well, and it is kind of annoying. I think too that people say "IVF" without really knowing what it is - to them, they just know it's something people do when they can't get pregnant "the old fashioned way," you know? So then they assume that this must be the way the lesbians do it.
Those comments about just going to a bar really gross me out though. I mean, seriously???

Butting in: I think its because most people don't know about IUI. I'm having infertility issues and that's what people always think I'm doing, regardless of explaining IUI.
IVF is the go-to phrase for most people.
