First time marathoner...

Hi there...

Next month I'll be doing my first marathon, something that I've dreamed of doing and have been working on for two years. I've done 4 half marathons and I do a 5k or a 10k at least once a month. I have been training since September as a beginner and my goal is just to finish. I know it is incredibly challenging, brutal and now I'm just getting nervous. Trying to figure out what the day will be like.

I wanted to see if any marathoners here had any tips, advice for that day. Things that have worked for you or things you wish you had done differently.

Advice would be greatly appreciated.

Re: First time marathoner...

  • You'll be fine, just follow the training ritual that you used for your half marathons. Make sure you take in more fuel too, it's normal to get edgy and antsy the week right before the marathon.
  • Wow, I'm so impressed! This year I'm running my first half-marathon. I was part of several marathon relay teams in junior high and my first couple years of high school and my goal had been to do a half before I turned 20 (I guess I'm not too far off since I just turned 20) and a full before 30.

I'd love to hear how it goes for you and what your suggestions are for moving from the half to the full for future reference!

  • You have done all the work and your primary goal is simply to rest up, recover, and get into a great mental groove. Look over your training log and see how much you?ve progressed. Review the course map and figure out your race strategy. Find your confidence and go with it.
  • I'm so blown away by your hard work! Good luck to you! Sounds like you've trained well. Let us know how it goes!
