Intro - a bit long

Hello all!

I have been lurking here for months, and decided to finally introduce myself. The last year has been extremely difficult (especially the last half) - a whole bunch of change in a short period of time. I'm 28 years old and in the last six months have gotten married, bought a house, graduated from college, and quit the job that I held for over 10 years. I am here because I feel like I've lost myself somewhere along the way.

I have had a weight problem for as long as I can remember. I guess I'm here to get some ideas and hopefully some support to change my life in a healthy, meaningful way.

I'm sorry for the novel!

Re: Intro - a bit long

  • Sounds like you've had quite the past 6 months! Congrats on deciding to make the change to being healthy. It's definitely a lifestyle change, not a diet. :)
  • What about talk therapy? Perhaps there is an underlying reason why you have battled a weight problem for so long.
  • That's not a bad idea, but I have an idea about the origin of my weight problems. I have PCOS and am being treated for insulin resistance. My weight problems have a lot to do with these two issues. I lost over 65 lbs on weightwatchers before they changed to points plus. I'm thinking about going back and giving it another go. Thanks :)

  • Trying to lose weight while dealing with PCOS can be really frustrating for sure. I think it's super important to make your focus to get healthy and not necessarily to be a size 2 (or whatever). Obviously, a combination of cardio and strength training will help with insulin sensitivity and will boost you metabolism and make you healthier all around. Also, have you ever considered looking into the Paleo diet? I started eating this way about four months ago to try to cope with long going digestive issues and have LITERALLY never felt better in my life. I have done a lot of research on it, and, from what I've read, it has helped a number of people with PCOS. It might be worth looking into or asking your doctor about.
