Oscar themed food

I'm going to an oscar party on Sunday and a lot of the guests were assigned a movie and a course to bring to the party.  I have Silver Linings Playbook and my course is dessert.  Dessert is the hardest course for this movie.  I can't think of anything to bring other than something completely literal - like chocolate with silver frosting or something.  I want to be creative about it and was wondering if anyone has any ideas of something I could bring.

Thanks for your help!

Re: Oscar themed food

  • I haven't seen it yet, but I believe the movie was set in Philly.  I know parts of it were filmed here.  What about a cheesecake (using philly cream cheese) or Peanut Butter Tandy Cakes from Tastykake?  Here's a recipe:

    • 2 Tbsp butter
    • 1 cup cold milk
    • 4 eggs
    • 2 cups sugar
    • 1 tsp vanilla
    • 1 tsp baking powder
    • pinch of salt
    • 2 cups flour
    • 1 jar smooth peanut butter
    • 8oz milk chocolate

    1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
    2. Scold milk and butter in saucepan. Set aside to cool.
    3. Combine the next 6 ingredients with the cooled mixture until smooth. (You can use an electric mixer. I whisked by hand) Pour into a greased 9x13 baking dish.
    4. Bake for 25-35 minutes, until cake is set.
    5. Spread 1/2 - 3/4 of jar of peanut butter on hot cake and put in refrigerator until cool.
    6. Over a double boiler, melt chocolate and spread on cooled cake. Refrigerate again until chocolate is hard.
  • the movie had a strong football and dance theme throughout...so perhaps football shaped cookies?

'silver lining' makes me think of clouds, so anything with marshmallows sounds fun to me.

  • I LOVED that movie.  Could you make a Wacky Cake and decorate it with the silver frosting?  I know throughout the entire movie everyone is saying how crazy they both are so that might be a cute idea.
