Hi ladies! Just wanted to give you the update on how things went before I go back to sleep, LOL.
Surgery is over and done with, and everything went really well. I got to the hospital at 6 am, went down to ambulatory surgery, got changed and was taken to my room. They did my vitals and started an IV, which was the worst part of the whole thing. The nurse who did it was really good, it's just that needles and I don't get along. Then there was a bunch of waiting, and H did a really good job keeping me calm. Then I talked to the anesthesiology staff and my surgeon, who joked around with me and my family and generally did a great job keeping everyone relaxed, and then they took me into the OR. When they first started my meds, I was like "I don't feel anything!" but I was out like a lot just a minute later and that was it, LOL. The last thing I remember, they were putting an EKG pad on my chest. When I woke up there were two more than I remember being there. I didn't even get to the 'count down from ten' thing!
So I woke up in recovery, got some happy morphine in my IV, pestered the nurse repeatedly to take my oxygen mask off because my mouth was so dry, had some ice chips, and went back out to the pre-op area. H and my mom came back in to see me, and I got a nice surprise...my godmother was there, too! I didn't even know she was coming! Mom told me that when the surgeon talked to her while I was in recovery, he told her my gallbladder was in worse shape than we originally thought - a lot of large stones and scar tissue - so it's good I had it out when I did. Once I had proven that I could drink, walk, and use the bathroom without incident, they took out the IV and got me ready for discharge. I got to the hospital at 6 and left at 11...I was only in the hospital for 5 hours!
So now I'm resting at home, and H just got back from the pharmacy with my medication. I feel surprisingly alert for having just had general anesthesia and a bunch of morphine. My incisions sting a little and I'm a little sore - it kind of feels like when you go jogging and get a stitch in your side? - but the pain hasn't been that bad at all. Overall I feel much better than I expected to.
I just wanted to thank you ladies again for all your support and cheerleading over the past couple days. The positive thoughts have been greatly appreciated. You guys are awesome!
