Hello! I'm a longtime lurker of this board, and now that we're getting ready to paint our dining room and get some new curtains, I'd love to get some opinions. I'm pretty set on some type of grey color, but I keep second guessing myself with all of the color combo options with the white chair rail:
1. Paint above and below the chair rail the same color
2. Do 2 different colors (darker on top? darker on bottom?) If we go with 2 colors, which tones of grey would be enough to distinguish themselves, but not be too drastic?
3. Do grey on one half, white on the other half? (white on top or bottom?)
Here are pictures of 2 different angles in the room; the area rug is gone so it's just hardwood floors now. we're keeping the light fixture, but we're getting new curtains.
I would love to hear opinions and/or paint color suggestions!!!
Re: Dining rm with chair rail-color help!
i like the idea of keeping the bottom half white. with the shutter doors and corner cabinet, the white would ground those pieces and keep them better connected to the room. (like in this photo)

i'd go with a green or grey -- but thats just my personal asthetic. i like the way both colors interact with white and dark wood (love your dining set btw!)

The dark color goes on the bottom to ground the wall, otherwise you end up with a top heavy wall! Unless you are using wainscot which would act as an enlarged trim and be bulkier than the wall itself, creating weight.
I tend to use warm greys but that is personal. If you use two greys, make sure they are in the same family but about 2 shades apart.
