need opinions for T'giving
So as most of you know, DH and I can't go anywhere for T'giving. It seems silly to cook for 2 and it's my only day off, and DH is only off for 1/2 of it as the team has practice. So I was thinking about us going to the AU conf center or Marriott at Grand National for their dinner. Do you think $25/pp is a lot to pay for that!?!?!? I'm obviously not going to eat as much as him but I thought this would be a lot nicer and relaxing then us spending what little time we'll have together that day (we'll be apart the rest of the weekend b/c he'll be at the game and w/the team) cooking and cleaning..........
Re: need opinions for T'giving
Nicole, I would LOVE that but Brad is NOT a big fan of CB. I wish he was b/c I would eat that in a heartbeat, plus it would probably be a LOT cheaper. I think Vanessa said it's pretty crowded there too. At least at these other places they have "seatings" - so fancy, huh? ha ha
I would definitely go eat somewhere nice with just the two of you if it will mean more time together and less time in the kitchen!
(Either that, or just order a smoked turkey breast and stuffing from a place like Heavenly Ham).
I think it's a good idea...$25 seems a little pricey but it's at the Conference Center or Marriott. I would say, go for it! It's a special occasion
I am in the same boat...Jarrett has to work that day so I will be by myself until 2:30. We have a whole turkey in the freezer, and turkey/ham that has already been cooked in the freezer also, so I am probably just going to cook some veggies and all to go with what is already cooked and have that. I am thinking about attempting to make my grandmother's dressing too, and cut the recipe in 3rds so we won't have alot leftover!
Plus, we will be getting ANOTHER turkey and ham from the hospital for Christmas. We had to buy a separate deep freeze bc the first turkey was taking up all the room in the fridge freezer!
oooh Lydia, that's a good idea, Brad LOVES ham. I could fix some of the sides if I feel so inclined. ha.
I'll ask him what he'd rather do.
Dang, Lindsay - a free turkey and ham - wow. We don't get anything here and we aren't even getting anything for Christmas at work (they took that away this year).
Yeah, I complain about not having room for them, but it's nice to not have to buy one!
I cooked a ham for Easter and a turkey on a random day to get it out of the freezer...we still have leftovers from both! We only get both since we both work here, we get one of each.
Do any of the grocery stores down there do pre-ordered meals? I know around my parents in CT, a lot will make the meals - you buy it, and then all you have to do is throw it in the oven to heat it all up - no hard cooking involved.
If you do that, you'll still get the benefits of yummy leftovers, which is one of the best parts to me!!!
I would take the easy way out with dinner at the Marriott or even dinner at Crackerbarrel. One Thanksgiving I remember, for some reason no one could come here and I was just terribly sad about it and I didn't cook. Bob and I went to the Capital club out at the Robert Trent Jones golf club and had a really good Thanksgiving buffet dinner. Then later that day, in a fit of "momness" I drove to Dothan to see the kids. I have come to realize that while I don't really want to celebrate any holidays without them, being together for every one isn't always possible so I'm able to cope a lot better now than I could back then. LOL
Thanks for all the ideas ladies!!!
Heather, do NOT be jealous, I'm rather sad about it b/c this is the first time not being w/family. It's going to be VERY hard for me b/c I'm used to it. While my family is small I'm going to miss them. Brad said he'd understand if I went home for the day but that seems silly and I wouldn't want him to be alone!!!
Where/what is the Lodge!?!?!?!?!?
