babe2331 - CONGRATULATIONS!

I think the nest ate your post but I caught it before it disappeared.

Congratulations to you and your H. Michael is so very handsome and it sounds like you had a pretty great L&D. I can't believe he came out arms first! Way-to-go on getting him out!

  • I was able to back page to her post, here is what she wrote. I'm sure the tired mom doesn't want to type that all up again!

    "He's Here!

Hello! I know you all probably figured out why I have been MIA recently. This is the first chance I really had to sit at the computer...

Michael Anthony made his debut exactly two weeks early on Valentine's Day at 1:29 pm weighing 6lbs 7oz and measuring 19.25 inches long. If I was a betting woman, I would have won the birth pool, because I had a feeling he was coming that day My labor was relatively quick. I woke up around 5:30 am to use the bathroom. I went back to bed and around 5:40, I felt the baby kick but this time it hurt. I let out an "ow!" And felt a pop. Not knowing if my water broke, I got back up and walked to the bathroom where some fluid hit the floor. I then yelled for DH to get up that it was time to go to the hospital. We arrived at the hospital around 6:20. I started having contractions on the way, coming about 5 minutes apart but getting stronger and closer together with each one. After registering, I was sent back to triage where I was examined. No need to pee in a cup... I was already 8cm almost 9cm and rapidly approaching the point of no return for an epidural. I was immediately sent to a delivery room. By way of background, I was 3 and 4 cm dialated at my weekly appts on Feb 1 and 8 respectively. It appeared I did all of the passive labor without even knowing it (I never felt a painful contraction and even worked and did housework up to the night before delivery). Once in delivery, they rushed to get me the epidural as my contractions were coming faster and stronger. Once I had the epi around 730, I felt immediate relief. I was told to chill for a while. Around 10:30, I was ready to push. After pushing a bit, both my blood pressure and the baby's started to drop rapidly. A team rushed in and started to work on me, flipping me from side to side, giving me oxygen and then giving me a shot of something in my IV. I was trying everything in my power not to panic, as I did not want a c-section. Finally, our pressures came back up and pushing resumed. I was still on oxygen in between pushes and had to roll onto my side. I was then having trouble moving the baby down the canal because I was too numb. My epidural was then cut in half. I was finally able to feel pressure (no pain) and pushing resumed again. Mikey made his debut at 1:29 pm. I ended up with a second degree tear because Mikey thought it would be cute to come out like Superman with his arms stretched out. This also contributed to my problems moving him down the canal. I can't say enough good things about my L and D team at PA Hospital. They were extremely supportive and helpful and really kept me at ease. I did not have my regular doc for the delivery, but she was ending her shift from the day before and came in to check on me when she heard I was there, which I thought was nice. The doc I ended up with was great and yes, all she did was catch and stitch. I did have a resident in the room with me most of the time, and she was great as well.

We lucked out and ended up with a private room, which was great. The one negative of my whole experience at PA Hospital has to do with breast feeding. Mikey was having lots of trouble latching. By the second night, he lost 8% of his birth weight and his bilirubin was slightly elevated. He also wasn't urinating. I plead with the nurses to give me a bottle for him. They insisted I keep trying to breast feed him. He was crying non stop and I knew he was hungry and on Saturday morning, in tears, I sent DH to the nurses station to get him a bottle. They gave him one finally. A pediatrician then came in to check the baby. I told her what was going on. She told us based on the weight loss, etc. we needed to start him on a bottle right away. Mikey drank almost 2 ounces his first feeding! The doc then commented the hospital is very pro breast feeding once you say you want to do it, so it seems like this is an issue they come across a lot. I am now pumping and rotating breast milk with formula. We still have issues with him latching, but he is starting to get better. He was back up to an ounce over his birth weight at his pedi appt this week and his bilirubin count was way down. Mikey is such a good baby and I am so in love with him. I am enjoying every minute of being his mom. Thanks for all of your advice and yes, the mesh panties are awesome ;)"

  • Thanks ladies!  I am not sure if the Nest or my 6 year old laptop ate my post.  I am having trouble with the picture in my original post and my computer then went on the fritz.  Thanks NQ for being able to save it for me :)
