Coffee drinking fairies

Background: I have a mug that used to be my dad's. I loved this mug growing up and whenever I was sick, my dad would let me drink my tea out of it. Eventually it became Lea's "sick mug" and I adopted it. As most of you know, my dad died a few months before our wedding and so anything associated with him is pretty precious to me. DH knows the background to the mug and knows not to use it.

Well, on Sunday his siblings were over for dinner and afterwards, they were having coffee and I noticed that DH was using my sick mug. Well I got semi-mad at him (nothing crazy), but just reminded him that he's not to use it. My brother-in-law kind of laughed about it and was starting to make fun of me, asking what was so special about this old mug and when I said it was my dad's, it very quickly shut him up, so everyone understood the significance. I got home on Monday, washed the mug by hand and put it on the cutting board to dry. That evening, while watching tv, I asked DH to promise not to use it again and he did. This morning, I wake up and notice the mug has moved and is now dirty again.

So I confront DH about it and he says he didn't use it. Just an out and out lie. No one else has been in the house and I know that I didn't use it, so he must have. I noticed another mug near his coffee stuff that was dirty, so I don't know if he poured his coffee into my sick mug and then realized what he did and poured his coffee into another mug to drink out of. But why would he lie?! Ugh! I said to him, if he didn't do it, we must have coffee-drinking fairies who come out and drink his coffee late at night.

I'm so annoyed! More so now because he won't fess up and admit he did it!

Aww! That sucks! I'm guessing last night he didn't realize which mug he grabbed and when he realized that he had his coffee in your Dad's mug, he did pour it into a new mug. But still, he should have told you when you asked him what happened!

  • DH will often take the path of least resistance - if he thinks I'll get mad, he'll avoid it at all costs. But sometimes it just makes me more mad.

That definately sounds like my husband!!! And yes, it usually ends in me getting more upset.  But.. I do understand your reasoning.  I'm sure he does too.. and if he makes a mistake, he just needs to be honest about it!  :)

  • See... I would be less inclined to be mad at DH and more inclined to believe that dad stopped by for a cup of coffee. :)

My FIL unexpectedly passed away in October and at the end of January I had a dream that I saw him in church and he "mouthed" to me: "I can see you and I'm thinking about you."  I'm a big believer in visits. :)

I love this so much!!! What a great way to spin a negative into a positive!

Aw! I like that too. Maybe I'll go with that.
