Easter Baskets

Growing up I remember our easter baskets being filled with candy--but the easter bunny always added some small toys that seemed so special (I'm looking at you sleepover Strawberry Shortcake :). I've found a few special things for DD, an easter kid Barbie (Chelsea or Kelly or something); some stick on earings; headbands. But DS is always tougher for me. Any ideas? What are your kiddos getting in their easter basket?

Re: Easter Baskets

  • I think easter is a good time to put in some spring stuff since weather hopefully will be getting warmer. I've done bubbles before or sidewalk chalk. One year Target $1 spot had bunny sidewalk chalk. When dd was around 1 for her first easter I didn't do too much honestly. More snacks for her like puffs, mum mums, etc.

Dd will be getting some candy of course, dh got her a board game and will probably get her a teenage mutant ninja turtle Lego set (she has started liking TMN turtles because of him). There is 1 toy from doc mcstuffins she wanted for Christmas and didn't get so may put that in there. Other than that not sure probably some craft/art things since she's really into that lately.

  • We don't go crazy on Easter baskets.  Last year we got them each a character shirt from Old Navy, I put some bunny crackers into icing piping bags (they looked like carrots), a couple pieces of candy and a small toy.

We will probably do something similar this year.

  • We keep our baskets pretty simple, but don't go that heavy on the candy.  The small gifts we stick to are usually books/crayons/stickers and a lot of stuff for outside like bubbles, sidewalk chalk, etc.  I'll usually personalize it with whatever the boys are into (Cars, Jake, Avengers, etc...Mason got a bike last year for his b-day, so he got a bell for his bike, that kind of thing). We've also done bathing suits.

We have also been doing a 'bigger' summer/outside gift...last year it was a picnic table, the year before was a basket ball hoop.  This year I'm thinking a t-ball set since we just signed Mason up for t-ball. It's not to go all out or anything, it's usually something we'd be buying them anyway, and decide to give it to them at Easter.

  • I try to avoid much candy since she's still pretty young. I got a pack of MIckey Mouse Clubhouse stickers for her, I'll probably get some bubbles and sidewalk chalk (thanks for that idea, ladies!) and then a box of Annie's bunnies. Last year she got the Annie's bunnies, a plush bunny and socks :)
  • I like the bubbles and outside toys for Nolan.  Thanks for the suggestion!

  • FYI for anybody looking for basket non-candy snack ideas. I saw the mention of Annie's bunnies. I do those too. But wanted to mention Target's chedder chicks too. I found these last Easter or the year before. It's their version of goldfish except they are shaped like chicks. So I do Annie's bunnies and Target's chicks and its a cute mix. I never knew Target had them so figured I'd throw that out there in case others haven't seen them before.

Although I haven't looked for them since last year so hopefully they still carry them!

  • we do spring stuff too- bubbles, chalk, jump rope, new crayons or markers, one year she got a bike (cause we won it and it had been in the garage for like 2 years.... hahaha).  I have not yet figured out this year but with her allergies I am more likely to get a couple small toys and then skittles and starbursts and some peeps.

Boys woudl like most of that stuff, but also maybe some little cars or an action figure. Duplos...

  • I keep Easter small.   Usually some fun shaped chocolate from Sarris.   I think I'm going to get one of them Hotel Translyvania on DVD and then maybe a different movie for the other one.
  • When we were little I used to get candy and 1 or 2 She-Ra dolls and you would have thought it was Christmas the way I freaked out. :)

A few years there the Easter Bunny would get my sister and I one 'big' gift and do a treasure hunt to lead us to it. The 'big' gift would be something like a new board game, but we thought it was the greatest. I'd like to do that for Logan when he gets older.

That's how I felt about the little toys in my basket!  And when I got older I'd get things like lipsmackers or when I was in middle school colored shavers.  Nothing was ever expensive...but it just seemed special.
