Toy Suggestions for an 8 Week Old Puppy?

We just welcomed our second furbaby into the family.  She is a Shih Tzu/Yorkshire Terrier mix.  She is quite a bit smaller than our other furbaby (a Rat Terrier) and I was wondering if you ladies had any recommendations for what toys might be best for such a little dog.

Thanks!

Re: Toy Suggestions for an 8 Week Old Puppy?

  • It's going to be a bit of trial and error...we did use a kong. And there a teething stick that could wet and put in the freezer...and any ropes can also be wet and put in the freezer (these help with teething)
  • We started out with a Puppy Kong (they come in various sizes, but the rubber is softer than the regular red/black Kongs) and rubber teething stick. We also got a couple of small squeaker plushies that she has loved to death since then, hahaha. Just start out with one or two things and see what she likes. Our puppy took a long time to warm up to rope toys, but she has been a die-hard stuffy lover from the get-go!

  • Another vote for kongs, kong wubbas and kong snugga wubbas. These are my pup's favorites, but she loves all kinds of other things, espeically the stuffies that have the stuffin removed already. Anything with a squeaker as well.

  • I agree trial and error is the best way to go. We learned quickly that our dog can not have any stuffed toys as they're unstuffed in about 30 minutes and just aren't worth the money. He also tries to eat the unstuffed animals whole so those were a no go. His favorites are the Kongs, especially their genius line, and anything else that's really durable or squeaks.
