Ordering plants online

Any recommendations for websites?

I wanted to order from Springhill Nurseries or Michigan Bulb but the reviews are really mixed.

Re: Ordering plants online

  • I have ordered from Gurney's without any problems.

  • Last year was the first year I ever ordered plants online and one of the sites I used was Springhill. I thought I'd give them a chance, despite the bad reviews, since everything was so cheap. Obviously, I should have just listened to the bad reviews. More than half of my stuff never came up. I'm sure some things I planted last year that didn't come up will grow this year but I don't want to wait a year for my plants. Plus they bombard you with catalogs. I knew the stuff was bare root but everything was really tiny, dead and junky when it arrived. I have been looking around some and using Dave's Garden Watchdog pretty heavily. I am trying to look up individual plants on there and see what they have as their top 5 nurseries. I've noticed that the places that are reviewed really well seem to be priced the same or higher than going to a regular nursery so I think I am going to use a regular nursery for most of my plants and just buy a few unique plants or colors online.

  • Avoid springhill.

DH and I used them at our first house. All the plants we ordered were mislabeled. We wanted red, and they were labled as red, but they bloomed as pink.

  • totallytomato.com is the only site we use to order.
