Dog Unable to Gain Weight - Update

Well, as it turns out, he has IBD. He doesn't have a typical case which where he has diarrhea often, but his stools don't look like typical stools like Nala. They look as if they've passed through but haven't been digested fully if at all. The veterinarian believes that his IBD wont allow him to digest the carbs he is, and always has been on. So now we're going to start on food trials.

  • We're starting with California Natural Herring and Sweet Potato, and no more treats for the poor pup.
  • That's a great start. Has your vet discussed adding Tylan powder to your pup's food? This greatly helped my old dog, who also had IBD.
  • We have and that's what we're doing currently until the food arrives at the clinic, he's hoping that the food switch alone will be enough to settle his GI tract, and help him gain weight. But if he has to continue to have the powder to that'll be alright, it isn't the worst thing in the world. It's much better than him having to be on a cocktail of different medications.
