YUCK! Kitty is stinking up the house!
We currently have the Tidy Cats Breeze system which stinks. It worked at first but since we don't get home till late in the day as soon as you open the door it smells terrible. We are getting rid of the Breeze but wanted some reccomendations on what type of litter will work well when you're unable to instantly scoop.
I know there is no perfect litter but I'd be a whole lot happier if I couldnt smell it as soon as we open the door.
TIA!
Re: YUCK! Kitty is stinking up the house!
I once tried Tidy Cats and didn't like it. I then went to Arm & Hammer and it was better.
My experience is limited, but the A & H works for us. (and I have an open litterbox in my bedroom...)
Put bowls of vinegar in the room where that litter box is. Vinegar is great for sucking up offensive odors.
You can try these tips:
* Use carbon filters for your cat litter box which can help absorb odors.
* Clean it out daily!!
* Always scoop out your cat's waste when it becomes clumps and always change the litter around twice a week.
Good luck!!
We have a CatIt box that I love. The top folds back for full access without removing the hood and the seam is placed really high to prevent leaking. You can see it on Amazon if you search CatIt litter box.
We also have a Litter Genie. I picked it up for $15 at PetSmart and use regular 10 gallon bags in it for scooping (there's a video on YouTube on how to do this). No smells escape it, and I can scoop about a week's worth (2 cats) before having to change the bag. Because it's more convenient to scoop, it's done more often.dus
ETA: Sorry, you asked what litter, haha. I'm so excited about my set-up I had to brag on it. We use Dr. Elsy's Precious Kitty. Low dust, good clump, $16/40lbs at PetSmart. Sometimes you can get it same price on Amazon w/ free shipping.

Whiskey Tango Foxtrot, over!
I agree with the above advice: Arm & Hammer litter works great. our house never smells, even if we do miss a day of scooping. We use "super scoop". We have a covered cat box, and do our best to clean it out daily.
You should also change the litter entirely once every 2-3 weeks, or more frequently depending on the number of cats in your house, and wash out the basin with a kitty-safe soap (no heavy antibacterials or harsh chemicals).
Lastly, provide your kitty with at least one extra litter box, so he'll have options. It might help keep the smell down, and he'll have more options.

Glad to hear it! You may not need to do the vinegar thing now that you have a new litter that is working for you. I also highly recommend the 'litter locker'. It's like a diaper genie for cat litter, and makes it really convenient to scoop!
love the feline pine litter or the crystals work well also just a bit dusty. I use the orange box of arm and hammer I love that I have two cats.
Also rule of thumb how ever many cats you have you should have that many boxes plus one.
So 2 cats 3 boxes
