Just in case you happen to check in again...
I saw in the post below that you said you're still in nursing school. Can I ask if you go to classes during the day or if they offer night classes, and where do you go?
I've been considering a career change and would pretty much be starting from scratch, I was just trying to get an idea of what I would be in for.
Re: :::alishanyc:::
Hi Nova!
So sorry I haven't checked in recently. It was really quiet here and I hadn't thought to, honestly.
Im so excited you're feeling a pull towards Nursing. Hooray!
Yes, Im still in Nursing school -kind of feels like forever, but I'll have my Bachelor's and sit for the boards next May. *What ended up making it longer was that, I was going to a CUNY school, and tried to get into their program, and they had like a 3-4 year wait (even with my 4.0, I couldnt get in) as did alot of the CUNY's at that time because tuition is ridonkulously low. I didnt have that time to wait honestly because well, Im not 18 anymore. LOL. So, I went private. But of course, when you go private, not all CUNY credits transfer (I personally believe its all about $) and so, I had to take extra pre-requisite courses. *Extra Chems, Micro, Statistics, etc. Then I took the entrance exam and got in. Its been a long road.
So, I did it as a career switch too obviously. Not sure if I ever mentioned it here, but have been an Event planner/Wedding planner since 1995. While Im really good at what I do, and the pay is great - I didnt have a passion for it, so I dropped everything and started this. I love it. Honestly, I eat this stuff up.
I will be 1000% honest with you: I have always been used to getting A's. Getting A's in Microbiology or Advanced chem is nothing like getting an A in Nursing for me. Before, I've never really had to study. I read something once and got it. This is the hardest I've worked in my life. I have never put more hours into the work than now, but im doing it, I still have straight A's because I want it. And if you want it, you can do it too - but I want you to really understand how hard it is and the stress it will bring you. The reward will be huge, and if you feel like you have a passion for it, somehow that will fuel you. I promise.
I can give you tons of information - things you want to think about, where you might want to go (please bear in mind that not every school has accreditation! And there is no point attending classes in a school that is not accredited, or their accreditation is pending because YOU CANNOT SIT FOR THE BOARDS!). Trust me, they will take your tuition money and you wont be able to do a thing.
I wish I knew someone when I was starting out that could guide me, I feel like an old pro now. I am happy to tell you all about it, but will private message you here so that you can have my personal email address. I'm never here, don't get notifications of messages either, and Im glad I decided to check the board tonight!
Oh, and you know I'm in Staten Island too, right?
I have NO freaking idea why my profile says Brooklyn. I updated my profile to reflect SI, and still..it stays Brooklyn. lol
