My cousin is getting married in NOLA in October and we've been invited! Yay! We've never been there, so looking for suggestions on place to stay and things to do as we're going to turn this into a vacation also. thoughts ladies?
Re: New Orleans
Go to Cafe Du Monde and try the beignets one of the most amazing things you will eat. Try not go get a hotel in the French Quarter unless it's a bigger hotel the smaller ones in the middle seem to be dirty and of course smell and forget sleep the noise is crazy and that's football season so Burbon street could be crazy.
The New Orleans Aquarium is pretty cool and there is tons of shopping. Also there are a lot of haunted houses and tours you can go on. Let me know if you need anything else I can give you more specifics if you need. Be careful on hotels it's super easy to end up in the wrong part of town.
I think that area is ok it's still kind of like the touristy type area so I would say staying there would be fine.
Just stay away from the 9th ward and if you drive there stop turn around and leave! It's the worst part of New Orleans!!!!!
I've been there! It's definitely a must!! Unfortunately that's the only advice I have as I've only been to NOLA for a day. We mostly walked around and had lunch somewhere. I don't remember where but it was delicious!!
This! Six months after Hurricane Katrina hit, I went down there on a mission trip to help clean up a neighboring community, but we had several hours on 2 different days to spend in New Orleans. The beignets are amazing =] We were poor college students so we just walked around a lot and took the sights in. Seems like kind of a good town to just see where the day/night takes you!
I was there for my bachelorette party last year and then DH and I went last April for the Final Four.
I fourth Cafe Du Monde suggestion.
When I was there with my girlfriends we stayed at the Holiday Inn which was in the French Quarter. Very affordable and the location was great.
We took a cooking class and did a cemetary tour (highly recommend). Let me know if you need restaurant recommendations, I'd have to look up where we went, but DH did a ton of research on restaurants and we ate at some really good places but I can't remember the names off the top of my head. But, if you want them, I can figure it out.
Definitely drink a hurricane and eat a po boy!
