Accent wall in a kid's bedroom

Hi everybody!

I would really like an opinion. I am thinking of changing a colour on the accent wall in our toddler room. It's currently a yellow wall (with 3 off-white walls). The room is quite small (96 square feet) and has a bit of sun in the afternoons (oriented North-west).
My problem is - I have no idea what colour to choose. I am tired of yellow (the whole ground floor is covered with utterly ugly yellow wallpaper that we still haven't taken down!) I am afraid of blue - that it is going to be "cold" and make the room look darker. I have already used a very cool green on the other kid's wall (pistacchio green) and I wouldn't like to use the same colour twice.

Orange would look ugly with the colour of the wood. Red is out of the question. Gray is not really for kids.

HELP!!

  • Why do you think grey is not for kids? There are so many pretty kids room done in grey, you can add fun colors by using as bedding or room decor.

Have you been on Houzz.com. There are planty of cool kids room, also Apartment Therapy blog is good place to look for inspirations.

  • What about a cool shade of blue? What about stripes?
  • Maybe a teal?

  • We painted a navy accent wall in our daughter's room and really love it. It goes great with all the pink and white she has in there.

  • We're planning to do my DD's big-girl room in grey and turquoise, with mostly grey walls and a turquoise accent wall. I think all shades of blue make a lovely accent wall. Or how about lavender or plum?

  • I would pick bedding or artwork that you or the child loves, then pick a color from there.

  • After you choose a color and complete the painting, have you given any thought to hanging some wall decals to add some extra design to the room? There are so many different designs and themes to choose from, it may break up the color you choose and add some more cohesion to the bedroom...best of luck!
