Any confessions for this week?
my read shelf:
Re: Confession Thursday
Confession Part 1: DH and I go to all doctor's appointments together. Some people think that its weird but I like it because my XH never really gave a crap about anything.
Confession Part 2: Background: I hate the dentist as I am sure others do also. I went a few weeks ago for my cleaning and I survived. So today DH has to go to the dentist for his cleaning. My confession is that I have a pit in my stomach about even going to the office with him. I am actually nervous about him going to the dentist!!! I am so weird...
I hate the dentist that much too, so you're not weird!
My confession is someone asked me to do a favor this weekend and I said yes and will, but it was something I kind of didn't want to do (it's just kind of inconvenient, but really not that bad) and so I thought about making up an excuse to get out of it.
Usually when someone tells me I can't, I want to do it SO MUCH MORE!
I am really, really upset with my work today. I work as an assistant in a special education class where most of the children have severe autism. Our principal did our yearly evaluations today. There were 7 sections we were evaluated on and rated 1-4. They essentially correlated to 1: horrible 2: bad 3: good 4: excellent. I got all 3's. Not bad, I wasn't unhappy, they are all good. I felt I should have gotten one or two 4's, but oh well. I could deal.
Well, I dealt with it until I found out that our useless, shitty assistant (there are 3 assistants and 1 teacher in our room for 6 kids) who has sat on her ass for 6 months only doing about 20% of her job requirements because she was either too busy texting her online boyfriend of the week or just ignoring the kids, got four 4's. Two of them were quality of work and dependability. The woman didn't know how to take data or the importance of it for 6 months!!!!!! She still rarely takes it! She doesn't know what she's doing. Then dependability....Our kids occasionally get aggressive and physical. My teacher knows that I am the first person in our room she can DEPEND on to be there and assist her. Also, out of the three of us, I am the one she puts in charge when she has to be absent because she knows that I am dependable and can do what needs to be done! I'm so mad. I am so, so mad right now.
Also, not all of our kids are potty trained completely. That's nothing new, it's been that way since the beginning of the school year. This woman doesn't like to change our kids, even when she's the one that points out that they're wet, or dirty. She'll occasionally change the kids when they're wet, but if they've pooped, forget it. No, believe it or not, I don't enjoy wiping 9 y/o's butts either, but it's my job, so I'll do it. When she asked me today "how does that not gross you out?" I told her "it's poop...I do it every day, it's not that big a deal"
ugh. sorry for such a long vent. I have been so pissed today.
Jen, I know how you feel about performance based evaluations. Since the teacher you work with directly sees the works all of her assistants do each day, she should have been consulted on all of your performance. New York State implemented performance based evaluations and my district just adopted a plan last month that we were trained on about a week later and went into effect March 1, retroactively to September. I am also nervous about how that will go for us.
My day late confession: I am sick a people, especially parents, who know little about teachers, judging us and stating on social media what we don't do. It snowed, my district has a delay today. Someone I grew up with posted on facebook that we only don't have today because the teachers wouldn't give up February break to make up days from the hurricane and now her kids have to go to school until June 29 (we only have to go until the 27 and the 29 is a Saturday).
I gladly would have made up the hurricane days on any vacation since I lost an important WEEK of instruction that will be made up on a hot week at the end of the year. This is time I can't get back to my class. The she went on ranting that we make the calendar and we don't care. The calendar is decided by the board of education and my union doesn't know anything about it until the board meeting where the calendar is voted on by district board members. This year they took out all of the holidays that they normally take away for make up days before they add to the end of the year. The BOARD removed 4 days from our calendar that we could normally use for make up, not the teachers. My union fought it, but the calendar was already approved and they wouldn't (or couldn't) go back to make changes.
Sorry I was long and sorry if I was confusing. I wanted to post this on facebook, but it would have started a huge debate that I don't care to get into.
