Nurse Nesties

DO you know of any web site that is comprehensive for Job listings? ?There are so many job search web sites it is frustrating.?

The job placement coordinator from my school is kind of a let down, she isn't really helping me find a job she is just sending random ads to everyone saying if you are interested to apply with the company. ?I had envisioned them helping me individually find something that works for me.

I don't know where to start, everything that I am finding is either for night shift 7p-7a (which I can't do, due to child care issues), a m-f gig, which I don't want due to child care issues, or positions requiring at least 1 year paid exp., which I don't have?

I filled out an application with interim staffing, and called Ready link staffing (a referral from a former instructor), and am awaiting a return phone call from both.

I feel like a lost little puppy not knowing where to look. ?

I am applying with county, but I know that will take a while and would like something in the meantime.?

Thanks for all your help and support.?

Re: Nurse Nesties

  • Well I don't have any outward advice. We didn't have any kind of job placement at our school. I guess you could start by just looking at hospitals that are near by. I wish I had something better to tell you.

I did see that you were applying at county. Which hospital? I am still debating on which hospital I want to apply to. I'm leaning toward Olive View, but I think County USC will give me better experience.

    Good Luck!

Either County or Olive View, I think county is a little closer to me.

I did see some openings from Tenet for LAC+USC, how does that work that it is county ?& private? ?The tenet shifts were 8 hours and I would really rather have 12 hr shifts, so we'll see what happens?

  • When I was looking for work after graduation and passing I just went to the local hospitals and filled out apps even if they didn't have an opening. Surprisingly I got a job in a place that I was told was not hiring new grads and as it turned out they were hiring new grads-lucky me.

    Good luck

    ?

  • I pretty much did the same thing Mae did: Filled out apps at hospitals whether or not they were hiring.

I don't mean to be a downer.  But since you are a new grad, chances are that most job openings will be a night shift or have the type of schedule that is not convenient for most people.  Most people want to work day shift and when an opening on days opens, it is usually first offered to the more senior employees that work nights.

Also, it looks like you've started filling out apps for registries.  Again, as a new grad, is this something you are comfortable with?  Some, not all, hospitals/units "dump" the most complicated patients on the registry nurses.  It sucks, but it happens.  Just me, but I wouldn't be comfortable while I'm still at the learning stage of my career and not having the consistency of being at one hospital/unit.

I know I sound negative and I'm not trying to hurt your feelings.  I just thought I would give you something to think about.  With that said, it is not impossible to land a nursing job that would suit your needs.
