My mom is retiring this summer and I'd like to do something for her in the way of a party, but not sure what. Ideally, I'd just have a casual party at home, but my house is too small. We had my dad's retirement party (years ago) at my parents' house, but for my mom, she'd never be able to stay out of the planning for a party at her own house, so I'm looking for other ideas. Something casual, at a restaurant maybe? The requirements are wine, cheese, good food, and friends, tbh
HoCo area. Any ideas?

Re: Retirement Party Ideas ?
I too have been looking for ideas for dh's retirement this year. I thought about having it here at my house but like your Mom I couldn't keep him out of the planning and I don't want that either. The places I looked was Magerks in Bel Air and they had decent prices and could accomadate something small like you wanted. I also looked at halls but I will tell you everything is so expensive.
I wanted something that I didn't have to do much for since I work FT. I want a place that will do it all.
What's your price range?
How many people?

I'm thinking around 15 people. I'm not sure of a price range since I have no idea what's reasonable. It may end up being too expensive, but I wanted to look into it and see what might be available. My sister would likely contribute and honestly, my dad may also.

What about Coho Grill at Hobbit's Glen? Or the restaurant at Turf Valley?
Or...
Kings Contrivance (although that could get pricey)
Catonsville Gourmet
a Japanese Steakhouse
Kid friendly is not really important. DS would be the only kid and we could get a sitter and make this more of an adult thing. I will look into these!

We had my dad's 60th birthday party at Magerks last summer. It was really nice. We did it in the back room where we had our own private bar and they set up a buffet in one corner. We had about 50 people in there and it was fine.
