Resuce POC or Local Pets Board?

Hi. I don't normally post on TN, but a friend of mine said she has received a lot of help from the pets board and recommended I ask on here....even though it's probably a long shot.

My husband and I are really interested in adopting a Great Dane from a local Great Dane Rescue. The resuce has a great reputation in our area, and I am impressed with what I have heard on how well they get to know the personalities of their fosters before matching them with a family. We currently have a dog, a cat, and a little daugher, so making sure that a new pet is a good fit for us and that we are a good fit for them is extremely important to me. I believe that a pet is a forever commitment, but I also don't want to "force a square peg into a round hole" so to speak.  I want it to be a happy forever. Problem is that I am having trouble getting a hold of anyone. I understand that rescue workers are normally volunteers and that it can take some time to get back to people, but I have been trying for over a week now with no success. Anyways does anybody have any connections with the Northwest Florida Great Dane Rescue (like I said, I know it's a long shot)?

If not, are there any local pet boards on here that maybe I could ask my question?

I appreciate any help.

Re: Resuce POC or Local Pets Board?

  • The Nest has local boards, but they're not broken down by topic like the national boards are (so, there isn't a specific local pets board).

You could try Googling online forums in your area, or try the local boards on Dogster.com

  • petfinder.com is another website that can help you find a local rescue.

  • A week isn't too too long.  It might be that they don't have a pup that fits your requests right now. I know I've helped with large breed rescue before and some groups are (stupidly) hesitant to adopt to young families because often children develop
