Beyond Annoyed....vent

I need to get this out and get some opinions. I'll apologize now I always tend to ramble.

We live in the middle of nowhere Iowa, in an apartment that is part of a 12 apartment "complex" so to speak. We've been here for 3 years.

We have 2 cars, one is a 2011, reliable good car and then the husbands "junker" that he occasionally drives to work or to his brothers etc. Most days we go together and take the reliable car, we work almost the same hours and i work 4 miles from home so it is pretty easy for him to drop me off on his way.

So the junker car doesn't get driven alot but it is used, kept insured and plated and gas in it.

So last Thursday, the 14th, our landlord calls the hubby and claims to have received a letter from the city (again tiny city!) saying that our junker car is considered "abondend" and needs to be removed from his property. Ok abondened my big toe. It was driven about 2 weeks ago. Well we had been talking about getting rid of it for a few months and just planned to wait until it was a little warmer. we just really dont need it, we can make it work on the one car and save the insurance money, etc. so we just told the landlord we would get rid of the car, he gave us 7 days.

so 2 days ago I went outside and took some pictures of the car. I am super super cautious about listing things online, etc but I thought, Im taking picturse of this car, in an apartment complex parking, there is nothing to say or show what apartment this car is linked too, we dont have assigned spots or anything, so if someone was really familar with the area and recognized the area the pictures were taken in, it would just lead them to the complex not any speciifc apartment.

So this am i listed the car on craigs list. Again I am super over protective about online security etc. There is no way from this craigs list listing anyone can link anything to any certain person, including us.

So this afternoon Husband and I get home around 3pm, and there is  a note taped to our door saying i want to buy your car and phone number. So i grab the note and go inside. I am INSTANTLY freaked. How in the world would someone know what door to tape this note on. CREEEEEEPY!! So I change clothes real quick, and im out the door to my other job.

I get out the door, close it and lock it and some older guy is coming in the building up our stairs and corners me and says "would you happen to live in 4e" and i was like well i might and he said "id like to buy your buick out there, you got that buick for sale" again at this point im am beyond creeped out and uncomfortable. I sort of pushed my way past this guy, told him I had no clue what he was talking about. so then he says "well i was told that vechicle belonged to 4e" so i questioned who told him that, and he tells me it was people upstairs, that we out on the balcony. at this point im just rushing for my car. I get in the car lock the doors and drive flying out of the driveway. I called the hubby to fill him in and he just informed me that since i left for work, 2 hours ago, that guy has been back 3 times knocking on the door.

So to shorten my rant, should i be mad that complete strangers are showing up at our apartments and my neighbors are telling them who i am and where i live. Im beyond angry and freaked out and frustrated.  Should I be?

I sort of want to call our landlord but I looking for others opinions first

  • Honestly, I think you're being neurotic.  I understand your concerns, HOWEVER - if someone was interested in purchasing the car and asked around, I don't think your neighbors were out of line in telling them who is selling.

    Granted, I live i

  • Ditto the PP,  I'd just sell the guy the car lol.

  • I get where you are coming from because no one tells anyone anything around here. We say "I don't know" to a question asked even if we did know for safety reasons and staying out of people's business.

  • Don't even get me started on us having to get rid of it. I dont even beleive the landlord got a flippin letter from the city. the city doesn't care. if you can even call it a city.

My thing is, no one but me and the hubby know the car is for sale

  • So to "thicken the plot" i guess....

i've been emailing back and forth today with 2 different guys who responded to craigs list. so the one guy just emails me and says he knows there has been another guy out pursuing me and the car and was curiou

  • I get Internet safety and not wanting steangers to be able to find you easily. Obviously the town is small enough the old guy recognized the complex the car was in (but not so small you know everyone). He came to look at it in person and really wants t

  • I think you sound really, really paranoid about this. Either just sell the guy the car or if you are really uncomfortable get your husband to handle it completely. You are in a small apartment complex where it's not unusual for people to hear things fr

  • I'm wondering if there was some type of marker in the pictures to indicate where the car was.  You say it's a small town.  I grew up in a small town and could easily identify a certain part of town based on a picture even if there was no street
  • Also, is it possible the landlord knows this guy and told him about you guys selling your car?

  • I think you sound super paranoid. People notice cars that don't get used much. We had our second car parked in front of our house for awhile. One guy left a note on it and another guy asked my SIL who lives next door about it and left his number with her.

  • ok just a few things....

my husband is handling all the aspects of selling the car except for the computer work. I am way more computer savvy and I actually sell things on ebay for a part time income, so I was way more in my element doing the com

  • So, the police came to your house at 4:30am because a man was banging on your door and your neighbor heard it but you didn't?

This whole thing just seems strange and is reminding me of the outraged nestie that answered her door with a loaded hand

  • I'm sure you are perfectly rational and normal but I am just having hilarious visions (at work, none the less) of someone on the stairs asking you if you are selling your car and you cowering in the corner of the stairwell screeching RAPE! and scrambli
