Discussing DH's "V"

By "V" I mean, Vasectomy. Made ya look! Stick out tongue

We are pregnant with our 3rd child....and after this one, we are done. So, we're discussing permanent BC.

I know a surgery for women is pretty costly and a major deal, but for men the procedure is done relatively easily on an out-patient basis.

My questions are:

Have any DH's had them?

Good/Bad experiences?

Healing time? Complications?

Have any problems with libido, functionality, etc. as a result?

Thanks.

  • Hi mommy! My best friend had one, oh probably 20 years ago. Nooo, problems, a little sore. And, his dad had one in the 50's!! And, no problems. I think that bodes well for a procedure done in the 21st century.
  • There is a noninvasive way to "plug" a woman's fallopian tubes. I am not sure of the efficacy of it; you might want to look into it.

  • DH had one 10 years ago. No problems, no difference except his swimmers can't cross over the dam. Be prepared if the doctor makes you stay in the room when he is having the procedure -- since I didn't want to watch, I positioned myself so taht all I saw w
  • I think it's a pretty common easy procedure.  My FI and my brother in law both have had it done with no complications at all.  My FI has had his for 15 years.  When I asked him about the procedure he said it was easy peasy.   Out

  • The woman's procedure that someone else mentioned is called Essure.  They insert spring-type devices in the tubes with stimulate scar tissue to form and block the tubes over a 3 month time frame.  It's a vaginal procedure, out-patient and I was
  • My H had one last July.

It was terribly easy. He went in and was asked a few questions and "felt up" by the doc to see how easy / hard the procedure would be. He was told to shave, and was given a valium to take before the procedure and vicodin
