Dog with slipped disc... any advice?

I have a 5 year old Cocker/ Poodle Mix.  He was hanging out before and suddenly was in a really weird, crouchy position, and started shaking.  We immediately went over to him to see if he was okay and he wasn't able to move and was falling if we tried to move him.  He looked really scared.

I am not one to overreact, but I called the vet right away and they were able to get us in within an hour.  After a few minutes he got up and started moving around again.  He is usually all over the kids while they are eating dinner, trying to grub food and he was really subdued and moving slowly, then he threw up 2 huge piles on the rug.

Anyway.... my sister brought him to the vet and he said it was a slipped disc, which was common in both of his breeds.  He gave him a shot and meds, said to walk him on a harness rather than a leash, watch him closely today, and if it happens again, try to keep him still and call him (the Vet) ASAP because it could (worst case scenario) cause paralysis.

Poor guy.  Anyone have any experience with this or additional advice?  He is  decently active- he doesn't fetch but he loves to run around outside.

  • I don't have any experience with it but I'm sorry you're dealing with this. If I were you I would get him an awesome bone to chomp on and give lots of petting and attention and keep running to a minimum. I hope he gets better soon!

They are worth the money, and try retailmenot.com to see if you can get a coupon.  Good luck!
